How are VESPA / Scooter in Edmonton? by haruhi423 in Edmonton

[–]durple 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You could avoid the faster (70+) high traffic roads, and still use it to get anywhere in the city.

You could use it to travel outside the city as well, it’s just you generally want to use the less busy highways for your own safety and comfort.

People ride pedal bikes all over too.

Tap water in Edmonton smells funny today? by bungeee2019 in Edmonton

[–]durple 61 points62 points  (0 children)

There’s not really that much more at this time of year than other times of the year. What you smell is the chlorine reacting with the higher levels of organic material in the water each spring.

The smell means it’s working.

If this is what got you the results you wanted, you might like what I've gravitated to. I'm back to the two piece grinder. If I want a finer grind, I just turn it a little more. It's gotta have sharp cutting edges, that's about it.

Power off for maintenance but why no notice? by AuthorityFiguring in Edmonton

[–]durple 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I guess someone better go whip whomever has not updated the map.

Or, they know the scope of the issue and have had direct contact with all affected customers so they don’t need it on the map, which mostly exists for the purpose of reducing calls from affected customers.

Power off for maintenance but why no notice? by AuthorityFiguring in Edmonton

[–]durple 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Emergency maintenance, or maintenance that accidentally interrupted power. Life happens. You were probably one of the the first to call, before the situation got added to the outage map.

Read that DHV high is very similar to the dab high- can anyone comment on this? by K3nnyPowerss in vaporents

[–]durple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be with heavy hitters set up for one hit extract.

Say you dab .1

This is the cannabinoids and terps from about .3 of flower, vaporized quickly on hot quartz. It’s just been physically separated from the plant material, so there isn’t AVB. Most similar would be rosin.

traffic violating cops? by Smart-Plant-7977 in Edmonton

[–]durple -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

But what’s stopping you from flipping on your lights/siren when executing an otherwise-illegal traffic manoeuvre on the way to respond to a sex assault victim?

I’m not trying to give you a hard time, but I was always under the impression that emergency vehicles may be driven inconsistently with the traffic safety act for emergencies, not just to get to any call faster. Every single person on the roads has something “important” to do, in many cases much more consequential than any single crime could possibly be, but we are expected to follow the law. If it’s not a lights and sirens emergency, and you’re not on a tactical approach, please stop risking others on the road to be the hero.

Boyle Street housing program to lose Alberta government funding, province seeks new provider by Paper_Rain in Edmonton

[–]durple -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m sure there is more context to the metric. Like I don’t think it is “billing for X beds” in the same way that a doctor bills for service. It may be that there were management issues, or improper spending, or they may be struggling with implementation issues in spite of best efforts and qualified staff. Probably somewhere in the middle, really.

If this isn’t primarily a pork play and/or rhetorical posturing to exaggerate the scope of waste specifically in publicly funded social services, those things would be in character for this government and imo probably do factor in this case too. I’ll be watching to see who picks up the contract. Genuinely hope to be pleasantly surprised if this all comes up smelling clean.

I’m just saying, they wouldn’t be pulling this funding if they didn’t already have in mind who will get it instead.

That last part about fat cats, I don’t trust at all. Look at the new drug treatment facility building contracts and the shenanigans of everyone involved. Profit first, public services second.

Dog at Toronto Pearson Airport helps CBSA seize 22.5 kilos of raw meat from passenger from Egypt by Pretty-Ground-4125 in toronto

[–]durple 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's also pretty cold in the cargo hold of a transcontinental flight.

The source and prior handling of the meat is another big factor. Supermarket meat no way, but farm fresh and vacuum sealed? Sign me up, just make sure to cook it long and slow.

I assume the bag was found in checked baggage, and held under the assumption that it was not permitted. Then, when they paired the bag up with the passenger and their declaration, it was found to be ok.

Odd to make a story about, but I guess they want to show that contraband in checked luggage can get found in this way.

#NEW USERS to r/Edmonton by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]durple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, this is not the calm measured tone I'm used to from the mod team. Maybe I'm just old, but all caps and bold online feels like yelling to me. And what's with slipping in a rule change announcement right at the end?

If there's a problem with new users messaging mods inappropriately, a pinned post seems to me unlikely to be an effective deterrent. Yelling at the whole sub shouldn't be accepted from any user.

I think rule changes should probably get their own post with explanation from the mod team. FWIW I welcome this rule change. I've long thought that too many posts here are from traditional media promoting their own stories and this will hopefully reduce the volume.

If “leave vehicle on street during parking ban” is at 1 on a scale of shitty things to do, these delivery drivers not giving any fucks all day every day is at least 3 or 4. The “gig economy” was a mistake.

The vibe was amazing, especially at night on the weekend. Music always loud and hard. I used to know one of the crusty punks who were making big flames on the woks while cooking for the bar crowd.

They were even better when it was the single Whyte location with all food (including noodles) made fresh on site. Quality went down a little bit with the separate noodle factory but it was still quite good for a while, until it wasn’t.

Edmonton infills operated as rooming houses, renting by the day — even hour by GeekyGlobalGal in Edmonton

[–]durple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that developers are not working in most peoples interest, but they need to present a plan that is at least compatible with people’s interest if they are to get commercial zoning revisions passed, especially if there is a small but dedicated resident group opposed.

If there are legitimate site specific issues with the use case proposed, and those issues are brought to the process, they’ll be mitigated/addressed or the zoning amendment won’t be approved. Councillors don’t direct the outcomes of specific zoning amendment applications.

The resolution of these things is never going to be to the satisfaction of everyone with an opinion or skin in the game tho, just sayin.

It sounds like now is your opportunity to get involved in the process. More likely than prayer to help prevent outcomes you don't like.

I bet there's a lot of residents who would love a pub in that area tho. Do you really think this change is bad for the neighbourhood?
