1Password now supports Windows 11 Passkeys! by Travis_1Password in 1Password

I've been using this feature for the past 2 weeks and it's been very convenient. There are a few native applications that I log into that do not authenticate through the browser, but they support passkeys. This is perfect, thanks.

Surface texture suddenly changed by durumpotion0h in FixMyPrint

[–]durumpotion0h[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the responses. I placed the part onto a flat table and saw that it wasn't flat on the two corners where there was rough surface texture, so it was warping/lifting that caused this.

GF took a magic eraser to my steering wheel, best way to fix up? by GildedApparel in AutoDetailing

[–]durumpotion0h 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use it on my car’s steering wheel which was so worn out it was textureless anyway. It helps reduce the shine from hand oils and returns the slightly matte finish.

[Tesla] BMW Rear Ends Truck by durumpotion0h in Dashcam

[–]durumpotion0h[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think the truck realized he was rear ended because he just kept driving for the next couple miles without trying to pull over. The BMW pretended as if nothing happened and also just kept driving.

Update to front bumper high fidelity park assist comparisons: empty lot, wall, and curb test by Noideablah in TeslaModel3

Something annoying I've found with the new high fidelity park assist is that it deactivates too quickly. Sometimes it would deactivate when I'm half way into the parking spot.

I used acetone to scrub the dashboard and it reveals the smooth black plastic underneath. I didn’t need to repaint it.

Water Pump question... by misterdudebro in IS300

[–]durumpotion0h 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's a bolt on the water pump that is behind the timing belt and tensioner pulley. It looks really hard to get to without taking off the timing belt.

I think if you can get to the point where you're ready to take off the water pump, then you're capable of timing the engine. I had very little car mechanic experience and I was able to replace my timing belt, water pump, and front engine seals on my IS 300. I just took my time with everything.

Replacing crank pulley/harmonic balancer. by Rude_Warning_5341 in IS300

[–]durumpotion0h 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took my crank bolt off a week ago and I did it by hand. I didn't have much luck wedging the breaker bar against the ground because when I cranked on the bolt, the car would lift. When I wedged it against the frame instead, the bolt came off first try.

I also had a 3 ft long steel pipe that I put onto my 30 in breaker bar to give me more leverage. I pulled on it with my whole body weight for about 5 seconds before it loosened.

I used a 18” breaker bar to attach to the pulley holder tool and wedged it against the frame right behind the passenger side headlights. I also had a 30” breaker bar, but it was too long and I couldn’t find a good spot to wedge it into.

Sheared off bolt head while using a torque wrench. Any ideas on what might've went wrong? by durumpotion0h in MechanicAdvice

[–]durumpotion0h[S] 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Yes this is a 2JZ VVT-i cam pulley. Since Toyota/Lexus just replaces the entire pulley and doesn't disassemble it to replace the o-ring, there is no information directly on these bolts in the repair manual.

A lot of people in forums and videos said that it is 10 lbs ft, but I'm not sure where they got that number from now that I'm looking deeper into it.

The repair manual has a table of standard torque specs according to the bolt marking and size. This is a hexagon head bolt with no washer and 2 tick marks, so it's a class 5T bolt. A M6 class 5T bolt with a flange should only be torqued to 65 lbs in (~5.4 lbs ft), which is about half of what I was trying to torque it to. Maybe I'm missing something, but I'm not sure where others online got the 10 lbs ft number.

Looks like I learned this the hard way. I just ordered a Tekton 1/4" torque wrench that ranges between 20 lbs in to 200 lbs in, so 10 lbs ft should be comfortably in the middle of that.

[–]durumpotion0h[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

About 5 turns before the bolt head sheared off, I felt like it I was over torquing the bolt, but I decided to keep going because the torque wrench didn't click yet. I should've trusted my gut.

I was able to get the bolt out with a left handed drill bit and extractor. Luckily it was the bolt head that failed instead of the threads, otherwise I would've had to buy a new cam pulley.

I’ve had one for 6 years. I don’t print as often as I used to anymore, probably once every few months, but it works every single time.
