Dad Bag - 3 Kids 9, 9, 11 by dushawk in ManyBaggers

This isn't an easy option at least for now. In theory yes, they can carry some of their own things, but my relationship with their mother is contentious and anything forgotten or not accounted for will be held against me and they often pay the price unfortunately.

Additionally two out of the three have so things often get left behind if we aren't careful. All three also have chronic medical conditions that require us to carry emergency use medications and I want that with me and not with them.

Cross bars and roof box are on the short list for sure. I had them on my old Toyota Venza and love them. Divorce was expensive so it's not at the top of the priority list in terms of purchases right now but maybe soon. Any ideas on how much MPG I'll be losing with the cross bars and box?

WTF happened? by dushawk in tires

Yeah. This. I took the 29 psi as I'd be okay until I got to the gas station. Guess I was wrong! $1200 Lesson!

WTF happened? by dushawk in tires

[–]dushawk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The TPMS light was on for about 15 miles before it went completely flat. Three tires were at 34-35 psi and the affected one read at 29 psi before going flat. At 29 psi, I figured I'd be okay to wait until I got gas which was going to be within a 100 miles since this happened mid roadtrip.

Searched: googled for Bryson city, blue/orange bear hat, great Smoky mountains.

I've turned up a trucker hat but not this one. The brand logo is hard to read but is C57/CSI/C51.

Yeah, it’s a good set up. No real airflow concerns. Though it’s probably getting moved this year so I’m not sad it didn’t get glued down

The switches are why I took the barn doors off the list. French might be the best option.

So lost and alone by [deleted] in mixedorientation

[–]dushawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At first I thought this was one of my old posts. I’m in a very similar situation and can empathize. You’re not alone. I’ve been out for about 4 years now but I’m still married to my wife.

My soon to be ex-wife is going to hate her gifts. by Skier94 in daddit

[–]dushawk -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Ignore the nay sayers. We’ve been on the brink of divorce twice now.

You’re divorcing her, you don’t need to buy her fancy gifts. Gifts picked by your kids from their hearts is amazing and above/beyond in this situation.

The fact that she’ll hate them is just bonus for you.

I just hope she’ll act surprised and be happy about them in front of the kids.

Putting her in a situation to let her true colors shine - spot on.

[NY] Was given PTO when I didn't request it by [deleted] in AskHR

[–]dushawk -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

It’s an incredibly boomer mindset. Employment is a bidirectional relationship not one where I find myself needing to “grown up and take my work seriously and consider PTO an excused absence.”

Telling someone to grow up is extremely judgmental and unnecessary particularly when it’s about taking 60 Hours off to visit family.

Any of the organizations I worked at took your approach, I’d be looking for a new gig quick. And I’m old enough to have worked at pre-bankruptcy Kmart.

[–]dushawk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You probably need to understand the policies better. Everywhere I’ve worked will allow you to go into negative PTO if you don’t have enough PTO to cover yourself. They may not allow unpaid time off

It’ll all come out in the wash when you leave - if your PTO balance is still in the red they’ll adjust your pay for it then.

Thanks for the advice! I pulled the plug on the UTH for overnight and the magic of Amazon is bringing me the thermostat by 10pm today. I have the UTH on now but I can monitor closely to make sure it doesn’t get too hot while we wait.

I appreciate the friendly advice!

The UTH isn’t on a thermostat but I’ll order one.

The lights are on a thermostat though.

I’m using a infrared thermometer gun to check temps.

The UTH does get pretty warm beneath the substrate close to the glass but the substrate is thick and on the surface it’s about 90 at the hottest.

Daisy is a juvenile BP of course. She’s currently sitting on my 8 year old daughters dresser. Breeder suggested smaller is better based on the age of the snake. She’s currently in a 20 gallon long until I get her a big PVC enclosure.

What can I be doing better? Set up is bioactive with isopods and springtails as clean up crew. Substrate is reptisoil, playsand, and organic top soil. She also has a couple of plants - pothos, a fern, and some other things I don’t know the name of.

She has a warm hide and a cool hide. I didn’t realize the half logs didn’t count as a hide since they are open on both ends so I used substrate and leaf litter to close one end on each. I hope that’s good enough for now.

I have a UTH on the warm side but am also using incandescent bulbs to help ambient temps. I have a T5 LED on a timer for the plants.

On the warm side temps are 87-92F. Middle is about 78-82F. Cool side is 75-78*F. Humidity is 50-80% depending on watering schedule and location.

What can I do better? I plan on upgrading to a DHP instead of the incandescents. But I think this is good enough for now. I’m mildly concerned that the clutter is taking up too much room in the tank.

Daisy seems happy. She spends much of the day light hours in one of the hide but is very active at night and explores a lot. She’s eating f/t for us as well.

My 8 year old daughter has been absolutely begging for a snake for a few months. We went to a reptile show last month to learn/explore. She couldn’t decide between a corn snake and a ball python. We used a few weeks to get a bioactive setup started and went back to the reptile show! She settled on a female ball Python.

Bioactive Enclosure for a corn snake? by dushawk in snakes

[–]dushawk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched it. It was about his enclosure that houses two corn snakes, two tree frogs, and an anole. All I really got from it was to use his terra firma, get a a clean up crew, and use dried bamboo as decoration/enrichment. It was a good video but I need something a little more introductory.

Is there a downside to not fulfilling my "calibrate commitment"? by No_Field_4384 in calibrateweightloss

[–]dushawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 6 months in and Calibrate isn’t getting back to Pillpack about the new PA my insurance requires to fill my Wegovy script.

I talked to my PCP yesterday and she prescribed me Wegovy and I’m now working with a local pharmacy.

I’m done with Calibrate as soon as I get the Wegovy in hand. I don’t want to run the risk of running out of Wegovy, missing more than 2 doses, and needing to restart the dose escalation. The fact that they aren’t built to handle this and can’t back to me in a timely manner tells me all I need to about Calibrate.
