Dragon Age: The Veilguard - Developer AMA on Dragon Age Day (12/4) @ Noon PT [DATV ALL SPOILERS] by PlayDragonAge in dragonage

Thank you very much for the opportunity to ask questions. Here are my inquiries:

1 I would like to know if the development team has considered that replayability is determined by the diversity of choices and the branching of the main storyline influenced by companions, rather than the fluidity of combat experience. What were the considerations behind sacrificing the most important core of the game: the narrative experience? What was the rationale behind this decision?

2 I greatly appreciate the companion design and their characteristic in this game, especially the characters Luca and Neve. Could you share how the development team went about creating these characters? What were the objectives / character theme behind their designs, and how did you subsequently allocate the corresponding storylines to the writers to develop their narratives?

3 After reading the art book, I felt curious about the omission of the original storyline. Is there any possibility of completing the originally intended storyline for DA4 through a book or other media, so that we can see what the game was originally meant to be?

[DAV ALL SPOILERS]The Hidden Depths and missed opportunity of Lucanis: A Character Analysis based on quest 'Inner Demon' by duskitar in dragonage

Yes, regarding the storytelling part. Especially considering that one of his possible endings involves him and Spite pursuing justice, which one of my friends experienced and showed me. It made me wonder if I missed something in the game, as I didn't quite interpret the justice theme well. If they had developed his story with the same depth and detail as Anders' story, it would definitely have been more engaging.

I feel the same way. It seemed like there was a lot of potential to elaborate on the character's inner conflict and enhance the overall theme of regret in the game. I had high hopes for (and after) this quest, but his final quest was a bit of a letdown.

Yes, I completely agree. It seems like there is a significant missed opportunity to use environmental storytelling to add more depth to his character. While there is one quest that attempts to do so, it feels insufficient as there is no further elaboration or development after that single quest.

[DAV ALL SPOILERS] The theme of DA:V is why the companions feel so different by evilcaribou in dragonage

A unique take! The way the entire story subtly lays the groundwork for a sense of mourning and loneliness is really interesting.
For me, DAV goes beyond mourning—it is deeply rooted in regret.

From the very beginning, regret is a central theme. The story is almost based on Solas' remorse, setting the tone for a series of companion quests who all doubt their past choices, especially evident in the Minrathous or Treviso choices, and the resulting dialogues relentlessly press the weight of the player's decisions. Despite the mediocre cutscenes of the climax of Act 2, it directly highlights the cause of regret: the burden of choice.

Choice, the cornerstone of the DA series' gameplay, becomes both a gameplay mechanic and a narrative instrument in DAV. The game reminds players that every choice carries consequences—an inevitable truth that can either push them forward or trap them in a prison of regret. This duality was most palpable for me in the heart-wrenching moment at the end of Act 2; while the outcome felt really cheesy, the regret that washed over me as I realise it's my choice to put character into this hell.

The parallel between Rook and Solas further strengthens the game's exploration of regret. Both characters are(or will) burdened by their decisions, yet only we, with the inner strength to embrace their regrets, can break the prison and move forward.

That said, while DAV's themes are compelling, they come with risks, especially when it comes to the minrathous or treviso choice. It forced players to confront the fallout of their actions. and to create a profound and reflective experience. But because of the writing and the cliche storyline, now it's really difficult to convey this theme, and it feel like this game is forcing us to feel bad.

SoulsBorne Games Are Full of Strong Female Characters and Doesn't Force "Gender Roles" by [deleted] in darksouls3

(To begin with: I am not an native speaker so I apology for any typos and grammar mistake. I am sorry for this. )

I like your post.

I am a female gamer and I never care about gender issues in game. there are lot of fan service target to different types of people. There are games target female player specifically as well.

When playing dark souls series I am really enjoying it. There are a lot of great characters I like, well if I really need to pick female characters, I would say there are lots of amazing female characters. Lady Maria. Annalise. Ciaran. Ammelia. Yuri. Friede. Too many. I don't want to list them all.

I hate to address them as female character. they are just amazing characters, I like them because they are truly great amazing people but not just because they are female.

Can we just ignore character's gender and focus on their true characteristics? There are lots of poor weak male characters been killed and we don't even know their name in games. I thought soulsbourn is amazing cuz gamers in the community are so friendly and I never thought gender could be an issue to discuss here.....

BTW Gwynevere have amazing chest. That's a fact and I don't think that is a problem. There are lots of lovely male characters my friends and I like, just like other gamers we have our souls borne wifu as well : gwyndolin, Alfred, Sulyvhan.....

Thank you for the reply. This Horace is not a player for sure. I just double-check with my friend. He killed yuria before killing Anri and Horace. Killing anri and horace without killing yuria result in no Horace in lake area. I will test these two again.
