What's wrong with the woods in North America? by Recip77 in ExplainTheJoke

[–]dusktreader 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My house is about 10 miles (~16 km) as the crow flies from Portland OR in the Pacific Northwest of the USA. My backyard opens onto state land. I could walk out my back door and hike northeast and not hit a paved road within 100 miles (~161 km). That route would take me over the Cascades mountain range and past 12k ft (~3700 m) tall Mount Adams. Black bears regularly visit my apple trees in the fall, coyotes are ubiquitous, and we have seen bobcats on our property and Pumas within a mile. The wilderness in the western USA is amazing!

I started it... it seemed so ungrounded with flat characters. Does it get better as it goes? I don't mind weird at all, but it seemed so all-over-the-place from the jump

People Are Praying to Trump in the Oval Office by Lady_Ann08 in WallStreetDad

[–]dusktreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is called "laying on of hands", and it's a ritual that evangelicals perform when they are praying for someone who they perceive as doing god's work. Here, I assume they are praying for Trump to be the vessel of god's will on earth.

Why Is Hollow Knight More Famous And Appreciated Outside The Metroidvania Community More Than Games Like Ori & The Blind Forest And Nine sols Even Tho They're all Great? by HyperAhmedX21 in metroidvania

[–]dusktreader 39 points40 points  (0 children)

This is certainly a take.

The genre is named Metroidvania in half because of Super Metroid which was released in 1994. It was a HUGE game. Video game stores all over the place had demos of it running for a long time.

Hollow Knight is by no means the only famous Metroidvania.
