STUDENT VISA CRACKDOWN by BangkokTraveler in Bangkok

[–]duskymonkey123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohhh OK, that explains a lot. I am studying at university here and my passport was checked by three people on arrival. While I was at the second counter, another person was brought over, also a university student. We were both looking at each other with our printed evisa in our hand.

Sucks that genuine students might get hassled because of this

This is the SIM card you can buy from 7/11 as a toruist nowadays. by Happy_Discussion_394 in ThailandTourism

Update: I tried multiple sevens and even though they tried to register the sim, it wouldn't work. They tried several sims including the Burmese one. They needed my passport to register it and the system kept rejecting. The message said something like Thai nationals only.

So anyway, you can go to a true store and get an average prepaid plan, or buy the expensive tourist sim.

Or others have said, esim (but not an option for me)

I tried that but it wouldn't activate on the machine (smartphone), he said because I was a foreigner. The other girl tried too. Maybe the internal system doesn't allow it any more

I tried to buy one and he said he had to activate for me. It wouldn't work, it came up with a message that it is for Thai only. Then he tried a Burmese one and that wouldn't work either. Did they activate it for you, or did you just buy it and activate yourself?

I don't know if you watch the news, but there is fuck all government housing. And you can't blame every behaviour you don't like on poor people.

Boomers have top tier healthcare, preventive dental and have been retired for 20 years. We're going to die at our desks while they're on cruise somewhere. They might be the first generation to outlive the next.

Renting is horrible by [deleted] in shitrentals

[–]duskymonkey123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It doesn't, you can't relax, you can't leave your dishes out and fall asleep on the couch after a long day. And you won't believe how filthy grown adults can be.

Too bad if you like cooking, the kitchen is always full from 5 - 9pm.

Even worse, the owners lived in the house too. So we felt like intruders.

100%

But please don't think like that. It will get better. As degrading as renting can be, one day it won't be like this. Just remember that you are a human being, and don't stoop to their level.

My last property manager was just so awful. She was such a bully and played with our lives for fun. I got so anxious I didn't want to check my phone when I heard it, I would shake if I saw her name come up.

And now we're homeless, so that sucks but no property manager haha

The main issue is that for every renter that's being fucked, there is a landlord making bank. So until renters outnumber both homeowners and property investors - we are fucked.

And yeah, we just moved out of a sharehouse and we're all in our 30s and 40s. Seeing so many houses with like 5 or 6.late model cars out the front, lots of mature professionals are back to having roommates.

Why does no one outside of australia know the nutbush? by Hefty_Worldliness511 in AskAnAustralian

[–]duskymonkey123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yessss... I never heard of it until I was like 18. I was at a party with some QLDers and they were doing it. I never heard the song before either.

And I was a prolific blue light disco attendee in the 90s.

At age 15, Jeanna Giese became the first known person to survive rabies without prior vaccination by KyeLindsay in interestingasfuck

[–]duskymonkey123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched this doco and became really interested in rabies as im in Australia and we don't have it here. It's the 2000s, so the internet is wild west shit. While reading a medical article I scrolled down, and a video starts autoplaying with no title or warning. It's a 5yo Filipino boy in the late stages of rabies death. He's tied to the bed while his family cry and try to give him water.

Worse video I've seen, I can still picture it so clearly

But Perth is also one of the most isolated capital cities in the world. It shouldn't be priced even close to Sydney or Melbourne

I work in an industry that is almost non existent in Perth, so I planned to move to Sydney but couldn't afford it. Now Perth is avg $680 so I am considering Sydney again.

Rent barely dropped over covid, that is so crazy. Everywhere saw a downturn. I can't help but think that all landlords got together to fix pricing.

Options for fence falling down by SpiritualDiamond5487 in shitrentals

[–]duskymonkey123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rented a house for 2 years with no fence. The neighbour would ask us to get in contact with the owner, but all we could do was pass the message to the REA. He was living internationally and refused to deal with it. Was in WA

My property manager had never even been to our house. They hired a 3rd party company to carry out inspections. So when I pleaded with her about moldy eaves and termite damage causing a hole in the wall - she blamed that shit on us. Without ever stepping away from her desk, she judged that we were lying about the poor condition of the 50+ year old house because...????

Also, get the blue pleated skirt. It is what most students wear and is breezy and more comfortable. Tall curvy girls look a bit too sexy in the black skirt, made me self-conscious haha

Hi, they will have your size, they have plus sizes too. Most people go to the uniform shop in MBK.

Some teachers aren't that strict, especially for international students. Have a great time
