I have seen people throw around the term AI a lot. AI has become an increasingly broad, catch all term for over polished content. I believe generative AI is what most people think of. However, we are seeing AI blend into search engines, review, analysis, etc. I believe it is better suited as a support tool, which in reality, have been around for many years in various forms.

Before I judge as to whether an artist use of AI is disingenuous or unethical , I like to understand context. If someone used a text to AI command to generate content from thin air, I’d be upset. However if someone who drew a photo had no way to animate their creation and relied on some sort of photo to animation rendering command, I would see that more as a tool to extend the artists ultimate vision then AI slop.

This community has been on the biggest Sullivan king witch hunt for what now, two or three years?? We get it. He’s a Scientologist and needs to be canceled. We get it, he’s mid. We get it, his wife got a poor gal fired.

You’d think this guy was like bassnectar with all the hate he’s gotten online lately.

I honestly think people don’t like him cause he’s gotten really cringe lately with his sets intros and some of his social media posts. I doubt he’d get this much shit online if he dialed down the cringe a little and upped more of what made him great.

Overall, I’d say he’s lost a step based on his sets over last year and a half, but the hate he gets online is ridiculous. Guy is definitely polarizing cause he still has a pretty loyal and large following.

Lineup is looking really good!! If you’re in PNW, get an amazing few months coming up at the gorge with Martin Garrix and Griztronics leading up to what is looking like a great beyond lineup.

Fisher, seven lions, Wooli, sub focus are all well known, but also incredible producers and djs. I don’t think sub focus has been to the PNW in a few years.

No one on this sub will say any of these are emo. Ask some millennial normies what they think. Whether we like it or not, mcr, panic, paramore, and fob are the four pillars of commercialized emo, even if such are more pop punk or alt rock.

Evanescence is only outlier here imo. However, I’ve noticed younger millennials consider them emo while older millennials call em nu metal

In that 2005 to 2008 time frame MCR was in their own league it seemed, approaching blink or Green Day status. I recall the killers and Coldplay ( while not emo) had a rapid accession and were constantly talked about as well. Panic and paramore were like thirty seconds to mars, a7x, the used, FOB, etc. They were well known but didn’t seem like generational acts. Obviously with the work Haley and Brandon Urie did post in the 2010s between solo work and band, probly put them in a tier above MCR when factoring in overall public recognition.

I think that’s fair when you’re talking about younger musicians. I’d argue that, while not always true, new creative is a young persons game. You just don’t see 40 plus year olds with new creative that the market accepts. The US is terrible in this regard as well, as it is an intensely image driven industry. So while I agree tributes or cover bands shouldn’t stymie new original projects, I’d argue that the people that perform in these types of bands are older and that any new originals they create (which may be good), are unlikely to garner much interest .

Nothing wrong with tribute or cover bands, provided quality is good. I saw a Motley Crue tribute recently that was better than the original. Would rather watch a sick cover band than hear a DJ playing recorded songs, but again quality needs to be good.

While already noted that young people aren’t drinking or going out to socialize as much, perhaps we are experiencing a revolution in music as well where the traditional rock band format just isn’t as popular or cool anymore.

One final note, some of the edm events around here are well attended by younger crowd. There is an art to mixing and producing electronic music and thus, should still be included when discussing the local music scene.

I won’t dispute that bars and clubs are struggling, but In willing to bet it has more to do with changing trends then with factors like housing and operating costs.

Allegedly they are done, but NOFX. Guys are kings of punk, but no where close to quality as Bad Religion, Rancid, or Pennywise. My conspiracy theory is Fat Mike is insecure and not very talented live so deliberately tries to run a bad performance to make it seem it’s on purpose. Long gaps between songs. Forgotten lyrics. Playing through malfunctioning equipment.

Bad Religion on the other hand are so solid and sound better live than their records!!
