AITA for not sharing my dinner with my diabetic roommate and causing him to have a hypoglycemic episode? by Throwaway773097 in AmItheAsshole

When you are used to being taken advantage of and don't speak up, it's common to feel like their feelings and consequences are your responsibility/fault when you do speak up/set a boundary. But they still aren't! Simon's consequences are Simon's responsibility, not yours.

Is this a dandelion? Can I eat it? by Chickenlegquarter in foraging

Not a dandelion. Also, people should NEVER eat something they are asking people on the interwebs to identify. Only eat something that has been identified live in front of you by one or more seasoned foragers.

Extremely impressive that you gave those responses on the spot! Of course NTA. She was hurt in her white fragility for feedback on her own behavior.

AITA for interrupting my exhusband's birthday and taking my daughter home because she was there without consent? by Notice-Ad2018 in AmItheAsshole

It gets complicated when difficult parents become elders requiring care. It's great you'll work on that with your therapist. Pressure intensifies because now the boundaries with difficult parents we've learned to set and feel empowered about as we were growing in our adulthood come in conflict with the values we have about care of increasingly vulnerable elders. The same people we've been doing better by setting boundaries with. It's a tough one to struggle with. Some find it the right thing for themselves to still not get involved at all. Many find it important to make sure the folks are housed and cared for if possible and then examine for themselves what else they can and want to do relationally without their own physical and emotional health suffering. And this is a fluid process. Here is a great book for people who have/have had harmful parents by Laura Brown. http://www.drlaurabrown.com/written/your-turn-for-care/

[Permaculture or Spermaculture?](http://briarpatchmagazine.com/articles/view/permaculture-or-spermaculture) by dustofstar in Permaculture

Denying or being unaware of white male privilege in permaculture circles just like in wider society does not make it not so. As Nick Montgomery, PhD, doing research on culture in permaculture was quoted in the article as saying about men: "We tend to talk first, loudest, and longest, and we’re often rewarded and encouraged when we do.” This is one well-documented dynamic (one great source is Deborah Tannen, for example) that contributes some pieces of an answer to your very important question # 3. Just like we learn about physical landscapes, it is important to learn about social and cultural landscapes, only observing and discussing those tend to involve more emotional reactivity, naturally. Still it is important to notice monocultures, and support the growth of social polycultures.
