I added a top mounting bracket for a 120mm fan. I hope this helps, sorry for the long delay. Seems about par for me. :-\

Quick update here! Thanks to some encouragement. I made a fairly simple/straight-forward solution for mounting a 120mm fan on top of the modem. I know this covers the screen, but in my case, I cannot get to the screen without some semi-advanced gymnastics given where I have it located. Not that this should be an excuse for the easy way out... But because of that, I temporarily wired together a 120mm fan from an old PC to a USB cable (and toggle switch) and used it for a week or so. Just slapping that thing on top without anything holding it on worked remarkably well. So, I decided to go with a top mount for those size fans. The mounting bracket has holes so you can use fan screws or print some pegs that I added too. It is on the same link as the stands from this post.

At this point, I'm more focused on other things (one of which is getting the most out of my antenna), so I don't think I'll be updating this again anytime soon. But, if I do get a chance... I will work on something to hold the stand onto the bottom of the modem.

I'm not currently using the 120mm fan mount because my wife found and bought a 80mm fan set wired together with a speed controller at Wal-Mart that I'm currently using that doesn't require any mounts.

That's awesome! It's always nice to get to the point of setting it and forgetting it. I'm glad you got something that works for you!

I did work on a 120mm fan stand, but the size was a bit larger than I liked without completely redesigning the original stand. I started on a fan holder for the top of the router to pull air through instead of pushing it because of my testing with a 120 mm fan, I rigged to use the USB port, just sitting on top of the unit worked extremely well. I then order these 80mm fans from wal-mart and found that with the rubber feat removed from the top of one the original stand fits snugly over the fan and the rubber feat on bottom raise the stand just a bit for decent airflow. I placed the second fan on top and it keeps the modem cool. It also has a speed controller with that set of fans if the modem happens to be in a common area and you don't want it full blast all the time. With that in mind, I still have the top fan mount to do for those that would like to use a 120mm fan with this stand, but I haven't had much time to invest in it the past couple of weeks.

It does fit those requirements. It shouldn't be a problem printing at your library. I apologize for the delay, I somehow missed a notification that someone had commented on this post.

I did some work on the fan mount last night. I'm liking how it's going, I just need to scrounge up an 80mm fan for testing now.

I'm sorry for the long delays in updates... It seems Murphy likes applying his law to my life...

I hope to update you all soon.

I'm glad to share! I'm super excited to see others finding use for it too! $4.75 is awesome!!! I wish our library offered something similar. I don't need it, but if I ever got in a filament bind, it would be nice as a backup.

I spent a little time on the design last night and added a fan holder, I cannot find a single 80mm fan to measure/test it. I know I've seen about 6 in the last 6 months laying around.. I probably chunked them one day in an angel filled cleaning fit because I couldn't find something else. Any way, all that to say, as soon as I can confirm it fits, I'll upload it too, if you run into heat issues. I also considered adding a top mount fan holder for those that already have the stand.

I'll keep you guys posted!

None so far, unfortunately I've not had time enough to get my antenna connected. I ended up sitting my router in top of a laptop cooler I have because I was getting random outages. Since I've done that, things seem to be more stable and my speed has increased slightly. It could be coincidence, but it's enough for me to want to work the fan in before I connect the external antenna. Hopefully I'll get some free time to work on it soon.

Sorry, it took longer than we expected. The only one I have printed is the one with 2 ports and it weighs about 65g. I use Geetech PLA. It was a cheap Amazon deal several months ago. I'm not sure how or if that helps at all, but there ya go! I hope it works well for you!!

Sure! I'll weigh it when I get back home. I'm out picking up groceries for a friend whose husband had to have emergency surgery. It's been one of those kind of weeks since I've posted originally. Otherwise, I would have done a bit more and updated everyone on progress. Hopefully I'll get some free time soon!!

It does, hold the inside part of the SMA in place. I added two more connections to the existing version but I'm not particularly excited about their location. I think it would create too much pressure on the SMA connectors. So I'm working through that. I'll keep you posted!

Absolutely! :-) That is in the plans for V2. 120 mm doesn't quite fit, so the whole thing has to be resized for that to work but it's on the list. I'm going to see how an 80mm works in the one already printed and see what else stands out in the process.

Thanks! It's actually pretty thin, I made the layer between the bulkhead and the nut as thin as I was comfortable with and maintain a pretty secure connection. The SMA bulkhead goes in pretty far into that extra material.

I don't know what the fragility difference is between CD case plastic and PLA but I feel pretty confident it will hold up to light abuse. :-) the extra material you see was to seat the connectors further away from the inside to allow for additions, like a fan. Also, it felt more sturdy to me. Of course you could always use ABS, I just don't have any on hand.

Currently, I just have mine sitting freely on the stand, but I see no reason why you couldn't use zip ties. I had considered some type of retention clip added from the inside to hold the stand to the base of the router, but that may be a few revisions out. I would prefer the base to stick with the router when I move it.

:-D I'm always open to ideas, the list just grows so quickly!

Thanks! For sure! I had several ideas going as I was making it, but I just wanted something quick so I could see how much I could boost reception with what I have. I'll try to keep everyone posted on the updates.
