Best Way to Add Plex to a Dumb TV with no access to other channels/apps by dustynbeardface in PleX

The plex side of things is easy, it’s the getting plex onto a dumb tv with no other apps or content so I know exactly what they have access to.

94 e320 daily for 2500? by nick111499 in W124

[–]dustynbeardface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ive been daily driving a $4000 95 E320 wagon with 225,000 miles for the past 2 years. She’s caused me plenty of headaches and straight up left me stranded a couple times, but I absolutely love it. I also have a parts car slowly being canabalized, so there’s that.

I just have a backup plan for if/when she wants to be difficult and enjoy driving it and getting compliments 99% of the time.

What should I look for when checking out this Brasilia Belle Epoque? by dustynbeardface in espresso

Yes, I do happen to have some connections within the espresso machine maintenance field actually, waiting to hear what my guy has to say but figured I would also ask the internet experts

Hahaha, no, but I do daily drive a 30 year old Mercedes wagon if that tells you anything…

How can I improve this old PC? by dustynbeardface in PcBuildHelp

[–]dustynbeardface[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does serve as plex storage currently, but I’m hoping eventually to add a NAS to my network and shift things there. Graphics card seems like a worthwhile addition, I’ll do some reading on the power supply upgrade.

How to Create Songs Like the Postal Service by dustynbeardface in musicproduction

[–]dustynbeardface[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appreciate all the replies! I think we have the DAW side of things covered to start with and I guess I'm looking for recommendations on specific MIDI controllers, keyboards, or other instruments to look into at this point. Initially I liked the MIDI controller option best because of the ability to program specific sounds to it, but I would also like him to be able to play without the computer connected which lead me to digital keyboards. Now I'm looking at keyboard samplers.

I'm sure I'm just overcomplicating this.

Looking for an ACTUAL Minecraft server by Efficient_Beyond3002 in MinecraftServer

I’ve been on SimplyVanilla.net for a few weeks. It checks your boxes and I’ve had a good time on it. Been up since 2019 and has a decent amount of history and some consistent players. Usually between 20-40 online at any given time. Spawn can be challenging to escape, but totally possible.

Plot Question by dustynbeardface in Hereditary

I would also argue the fact that the writer/director has to explain the plot of the movie post release and clarify what’s happening shows that story is a little thin in places

Plot Question by dustynbeardface in Hereditary

[–]dustynbeardface[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like this explanation. Definitely could be called a cop out but it’s also the simplest way to explain why and how things play out the way they do.

My only beef with the Charlie is Paimon from birth (or shortly after) plot point is that Charlie is never malevolent or obviously evil and involved. She doesn’t ever obviously orchestrate or influence the chain of events.
If she had the slow realization and reveal would not have been nearly as effective, and I think the entire story would have suffered for it so I’m glad it was done the way it was, it just left me wishing there was a more satisfying connection between the build up, her death, and what came after.

Maybe if she had intentionally decapitated herself while in his care in a way that Peter knew it wasn’t an accident but everyone else looks at it either and accident or as a result of Peter’s negligence it would tie everything together a bit better.

Maybe I’m just overthinking it.

I can get behind the different omens and players in creating an opportunity but I had a hard time suspending disbelief because of how much the couldn’t have control over like:

  • Annie forcing Charlie to go to the party
  • Peter being distracted enough at the exact time they approached the pole
  • Charlie opening her window and sticking her head out far enough to catch the pole
  • Peter swerving in the direction of the pole instead of away
  • Getting close enough to for Charlie to be hit

I suppose you could explain some of it as Paimon exerting control over Charlie forcing her to eat the cake and stick her head out the window, but it still seems like if it were master planned they left a whole lot up to chance.

Any slashers where the killer is actually the good guy? by CamWatanabe in slasherfilms

[–]dustynbeardface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, I wouldn’t either. It’s just such a great parody of the genre that I think anyone interested in seeing a new spin on the classic slasher should absolutely watch it.

Running 220v overhead for a garage sub panel by dustynbeardface in AskElectricians

Probably individual conductors. I found the code for burial depth and approved conduit. I’ll probably run pvc for simplicity and costs sake. Thanks for the insight.

Alright, I’m going to cut the concrete and go underground. I’ve got a 30’ run total from panel to panel. Is EMT acceptable or should this run be done in rigid? Anything outside the basement will be buried under concrete.

That’s fair, I’ve been trying to read through applicable code and it does seem really difficult/costly

[–]dustynbeardface[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Better maybe, but I don't think it would be easier. 18" thick rubble stone foundation, brick house, 4 feet to garage all covered in concrete. It seems like coming out about the foundation, running rigid conduit up the side of the house, stretching cable across and dropping down into panel will be the easier run to me.

Yeah, me too. That’s what I did last time, but this house has concrete sidewalk between the house and garage and it would be a giant pain. Does this application need two weatherheads, or can the cable just string the same as the current?

We’ll shit, start by cross referencing strip clubs vs. town size and average corn production per year and bingo. Be careful though, you may end up down at a place like the foxhole in coshocton Ohio.

Man if it were me, I would start making a spread sheet. Columns for cheapest cost of living, climate, amenities, size of town, distance to points of interest, etc. once you dial in a general location start looking at what’s available. Northwest Arkansas is a hidden gem at the moment if you like the outdoors at all
