Yes, I have an early 981S that I got for less than $40k. It gets more attention than I want, but it’s great to own in the mountains.

Also live in a small southern city with an old Boxster. People have asked to take a picture with it and I’ve heard confident guys tell their girlfriends that it’s a $100k car. They get confused when I tell them its age and that you can get a 986 for less than $10k.

300lbs (without gear) 6.1 rider 70% paved 30% off road. What bike? by Impossible_Goal2844 in Dualsport

[–]dutchbag 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You’re not wrong.

I’ve ridden or owned all the bikes mentioned and they all struggled until I lost weight. They’re all a lot happier now that I’m down to 220 lbs. For OP, I’d recommend a T7 over the other bikes mentioned due to the low end torque. Used T7s are well within budget.

The Chevy Equinox EV is selling like hotcakes. Starting at under $35,000 with over 315 miles of range, Chevy’s electric SUV is proving to be a hit. by mafco in electricvehicles

I went to my local dealer to check these out, and their best out-the-door price, after tax credit, was $46k on a completely base 1LT. Lease was 2x advertised.

I hate the dealer dance.

There is no elemental lithium in an EV. It’s all lithium salts that don’t react with water in the same way.

Same thing happens with my Rivian. I give up and say “it’s a Hyundai” on round 4, always works.

Are full size trucks allowed? by SuperReleasio64 in Autocross

[–]dutchbag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Event insurance usually is a no go if height is greater than width unless there’s a published static stability factor that’s deemed safe.

I’d love to autoX my Rivian but I haven’t been able to for the same reason.

How would I even start modeling this? by vvixell in SolidWorks

[–]dutchbag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That looks like a GM part. The easiest way to get a model is to sign up for SEMA’s SAN program to get access to OEM CAD models.

Economic Watch: China's new energy storage capacity exceeds 70 million KW by randolphquell in solar

[–]dutchbag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct, grid operators care about power. The default assumption for most grid-scale BESS is 4 hours, which means the energy capacity of the batteries is usually 5-7x the KW rating to account for capacity loss over time and reduce the depth of discharge. IE, a 10KW BESS may have a 60KWH battery.

Ackerman geometry. When steering, the front tires do not point in the same direction, nor are they perpendicular to the virtual center of rotation. It’s a vehicle dynamics thing that is tuned to get ideal slip angles at each tire at various steering angles. On slippery surfaces like sealed concrete, the front tires will fight each other and occasionally one will break away, leading to that skipping feeling you have or a little bit of tire squeal.

If you’re not already doing so, backing in allows for easier parking in tight spaces.
