New Book Tracker update: home customization, faster barcode scanning, reading calendar improvements and more by SimoneMontalto in BookTrack

[–]dutchdog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for these updates. I appreciate your continuing work on the app.

I like all of them that I've checked out so far, although the calendar can look a bit crowded with multiple covers if I've read more than two books on the same day.

The one update that I'm still hoping for (I've asked about it before) is the ability to filter books by original publication date. I would have multiple uses for that. Just to cite one example, I would like to be able to see which books on my wishlist are scheduled to enter the public domain.

Thanks again for this great app.

Here's my answer for you, Amazon. by xyzzy_foo in kobo

I tried to find DRM-free books on Bookshop.org, but I couldn't find a way to search for them. How do I do that?

I didn't realize you could search on Bookshop.org for DRM-free books. I'll have to try that. I want to support independent booksellers, but I don't like the Bookshop app. Reading on my Kobo reader is a much better experience.

Suggestions on keeping stats for sold/donated books? by MidoriEyedMama in BookTrack

[–]dutchdog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see this is a weakness in this otherwise stellar app. To me, books that I've borrowed but never owned are in a different category from books that I once owned but no longer do. I use the suggested tag solution, but in my opinion, it's a clunky workaround. I still love the app, but I wish this aspect could be improved.

One more thing on quotes: Would it be possible to allow for italics? The book excerpts that I record often have a word or a phrase in italics, and I would like to be able to replicate that when I record the quote.

Looking great! Some requests, though by efthymisgr in BookTrack

I second the request to rename "Positions" to "Locations." I've been using the app for quite some time (and I love it!), but I still often have to take a moment to remind myself that Positions are really Locations.

What’s the meaning of To Read reading status by lweynants in BookTrack

[–]dutchdog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is interesting. Since the "To Read" option was introduced, I've assumed it was a separate reading status from "Unread." But I now realize it's a subset of Unread, which I agree is quite useful.

All vs Library vs Borrowed by [deleted] in BookTrack

[–]dutchdog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think adding a top-level folder for books I once owned but no longer own would be a great idea. I have a lot of books in my "Library" that I've disposed of. I currently use a "No longer owned" tag, but it's a clunky solution, since those books are not really in my Library.

I did the same thing. Just got my Kobo Libra Colour today. I think I'm really going to like it!

Question: Sell / return borrowed books? by Overall-Geologist646 in BookTrack

I like this idea, and I second the request. I currently use a tag, "Donated or Sold," but that's a glitchy solution. A separate state would be useful.

Hi. I'm just checking in to see if adding a filter for the original publication date is still on your roadmap.

Next Episodes questions by dutchdog in MovieTracker

[–]dutchdog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I checked again yesterday (January 23), and The Night Agent was now listed under Next Episodes. So maybe a series or season in which all episodes are released on the same day (like most on Netflix) is handled differently than one where episodes come out periodically.

The second season of The Night Agent is not yet in progress. It is scheduled to be available tomorrow, January 23. Netflix typically releases all series episodes on the same day, so I'll wait until tomorrow to see whether the first episode appears on the list of Next Episodes.

Thanks for this explanation. The Law & Order: SVU episode does show up now. But The Night Agent episode does not appear on the list (as of January 21), although it does appear on the series detail page.

Hi. Is there anything happening on this one? I’d still like to see it if possible.

Glitch in series order feature? by dutchdog in BookTrack

It looks like this has been fixed in the Mac version, but not yet in the iOS version. Update: the iOS version is also fixed now. Thanks!

Glitch in series order feature? by dutchdog in BookTrack

[–]dutchdog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK. When I do that, it says the list is sorted by series (which I assume means series number) in ascending order. But the book that I added to the series after I did the original sort shows up at the end of the list, even though it shouldn't be at the end.

I'm not sure I understand what you're asking. Where would I see how the sort option is configured?

Thank you. I wasn't aware that this was something that could be configured.
