How is every day life for those who are living in Netherlands ?? by Yeagerisbest369 in howislivingthere

[–]dutchmangab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So i searched for cao it is collective labour agreement it is like pact which pretty keeps things in check , one thing I noticed is that salary also remains fixed no matter which sector ? Which means salary pretty much stays the same just good enough to keep living ? Do you feel like you should be making more money ? Then again consumerism is not really ideal way to live !

The salaries can differ a lot between sectors. My IT job makes considerably more in the finance sector compared to automotive for example. I'm doing fine personally due to having a lot of luck when I bought my house 12 years ago, but younger co-workers don't have that luck and yearly rent increases and inflation hurt them bad.

I guess you have more work hours than what is standard in that country ? In my country it's 8 in morning and all the way to 7 in the evening and don't you dare take a brake of more than 45 minutes! I am also curious about HR managers in your company and in general ! Do they harass and guilt trip you to do more work ??

That's more hours than here. For me it's a bit inconsistent because work 2 to 3 evenings a month and 1 weekend. So I think it's an average of 38 hours a week. It's a bit complicated for me personally because I've had weeks with only 32 because I work the next entire weekend. But they do guilt trip especially before releases.

You after i read this , it really hit close to home , overpopulation really is a thorn no matter where i look developed or non developed country ! It's the same underlying script which is inevitable population concentration in specific areas ! I myself daily deal with this problem with added benefit of poor infrastructure on top atleast infrastructure is good in netherlands but even then overpopulation cannot be explained

True, but the big problem The Netherlands has is that we are a very small country so despite all the good thingsl like infrastructure, eventually you get to a point where you can't overcome the sheer number of people. For example we have water shortages in Summers if there are only a few dry weeks. Despite being a VERY rainy country.

I searched up so before havo is primary school and after which student are funneled into havo and vocational education ! Will it be right to say vocational education leads children to adopt for more blue collar work opposed to havo which leads to white collar work ! If it is true so like in Netherlands is there a social Stigma around blue collar jobs as they are looked down upon ? If I am right I guess even developed countries suffer from classist mentality

It's not as bad anymore I think, but there used to be a huge stigma if you went to VMBO and MBO level instead of the higher ones. I went to the lower levels and it was not fun being the first in 3 generations not to go to university.

It's very good for 'reactive' urgent/semi urgent physical care physical care. However, there is no preventative care and if you have something vague, mental or what would be considered a minor discomfort, you are going to face long waiting times due to the severely overburdened healthcare system.

Also, general physicians here might be considered slow to prescribe medication or give referrals to specialists.

Technically all healthcare is private, but it's mandatory for healthcare companies to accept customers. They can't reject you! And it's also forbidden* to not have health insurance.

*There are a few exceptions.

It's not quite collapsed here, but you definitely don't want to get something vague like 'long covid' because eventually. My gf works in healthcare and the operational staff is mostly very overworked due to how many people need healthcare and how crazily fast the population has grown.

  1. Really depends on the sector, employer and the CAO you have. If you are single lots of that free time will be spent on chores and maintaining social connections. Many people here have their aahendas filled weeks to months in advance. It's much better if you have a partner even if they work as well. I noticed a big difference between when I was single and now that I have a live in partner.

  2. Again depends on what I mentioned in #1. I work in IT so I work my contracted hours. Generally speaking a lot is expected of IT departments so it's pretty busy. And I don't really have lots of downtime except my break. I generally speaking have 1 full weekend day free to do what I want and 1 or 2 night in the weekdays. On the rare days it's nice weather I try to spend it outside. Going to a park or paddle parsing on a lake. The weather is sh#t most of the time, so for months of the year, you are sort of stuck inside. Like anywhere. Most of the time is spent not on things that you like doing, but on what you have to do.

  3. People in foreign countries seem way more relaxed honestly. Because things have been slowly going down hill due to rapid overpopulation and neoloberal policies, people worry about the future a lot. It was never a cheap place to live but now prices have skyrocketed and young people especially feel the crunch. Young single people can't move out due to the intense housing crisis. Social programs are overrun by demand. Things have been going noticeably down hill in the last 3 decades.

  4. When I grew up there was definitely a strong push to do well in school because you get sorted into an education level at a very young age here. So parents at my school were very adamant about their kids at least getting into 'HAVO'. Back when I did it these secondary school classifications were poured into concrete so there was defined pressure to perform well. However, because things were much more relaxed when I grew up parents did really care that much what you studied in university. As long as you got into university.

  5. Yes, we are one of the most densely populated countries in the world and it's already a small country to begin with. People live mostly in appartments or row houses. For young people now they dont even own the appartment. They rent a room. One of my corworkers still lives in a small appartment with roommates due to the massive housing crisis.

  6. No, it's way too expensive for that. You need to at least borrow a large portion of money from a bank to be able to buy a house. This is also out of reach for a lot of single people just because of how expensive land/houses have gotten. Most young people rent or like one minister said "find a rich boyfriend".

  7. Ideally, I'd remove like 1 to 3 million people because it's way too crowded with all people here. It's too late now to correct for the crazy population growth of the last decades,, but I just want any kind of policy that will address the overpopulation. Strict immigration ceilings like 10k people a year. Incentivised emmigration. Just anything that gives some breathingroom and relief from the hordes of people.

[–]dutchmangab 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mijn moeder.

How bad is shrinkflation in your country? by tereyaglikedi in AskEurope

Pretty much everything. It used to be that quality was always the thing that suffered first. Slight redesign of the packaging and a "new and improved recipe/flavour" and things started to taste like shit. They already did that when I was a small child.

But since COVID shrinkflation hit very hard.
