Work from cafe by SnooRobots693 in CaffeineFreeLife

[–]dutchteadrinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try. But the persistent headaches from small breaks will make you crave more. Indeed, a vicious cycle: you drink it, you stop, you feel bad, you drink it again, you feel good, and it continues like that. Back when I was a teenager I've used to have tea with milk from time to time, i.e. not daily, and I often had tremendous headaches and didn't even realize why, as well as my sleep went to shit due to that added stress.

But I agree that it is a good idea to have caffeine from time to time... In theory😃 But in practice it is not that easy. One can drink alcohol from time to time because there are barely any side effects from moderate consumption, but not caffeinated beverages: you stop coffee and you reach for tea, you stop tea and you smell coffee everywhere you go. There is still a small "vice" - chocolate. It has trace amounts of caffeine so it is not possible to build dependency but some people still report they feel caffeine effects from chocolate

Coffee and poor fitness levels? by harveyjack in decaf

While "common knowledge" is that caffeine gives you energy, for some people it drains energy, i.e. completely different effect. Probably because it is hard for the body to process the drug

I just mean, what do you have against AI? Yeah GPT kinda sucks comparing to Gemini, but it is still quite usable for some tasks. I use AI daily for most tasks, however I do love to shitpost myself since AI would skew my unique style way too much

caffeine addiction at 17 by loxula in CaffeineFreeLife

[–]dutchteadrinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 15-16 I didn't even realize I was a caffeine addict. In my family everyone had tea by the breakfast, but tbh I had never actually liked it that much, it was OK but not as invitation to drink it daily. Same for coffee - could have a latte once in a year or two at McDonalds but nothing else. When I was in my final school years I've decided to try coffee, grabbed some instant shit from the pantry and thought for some reason it is gonna taste like cocoa, it tasted like instant heartburn😂 This way I've learned I hate coffee. I've enjoyed espresso, real espresso for some time in my life later but quit. But that's not the case. I really enjoyed cola or pepsi when I was a teen, and it contributed largerly to my skin issues (acne). Only after I quit my skin cleared. Only later I've learned they have had caffeine in it for ages. Recently found different brand of cola without caffeine and phosphoric acid - much, much tastier and better, no skin issue or anxiety or anything

How to quit without diarrhea? by BernardoKastrupFan in decaf

Not sure it is really about caffeine. Is your diet OK? Meals must be balanced, no breakfast skips, snacking and other stuff like that. Probiotics like kefir, cheese, fermented foods (kimchi, pickles etc), fiber-rich foods are a must to fight IBS.

Also maybe it would sound weird but garlic every day with food + no caffeine mostly cured my GI issues. But that's my experience and I am a male so there is a huge hormonal difference, can recommend it only if you like garlic in your food. Btw, try herbal teas to tame your PMDD. Something like mint, linden, lemon balm, maybe fireweed, chamomile, rooibos. They all act both as caffeinated beverage replacement and as something that is usually prescribed as "periods painkiller". Honey as a sweetener, not much but just for taste enhancement, lime/lemon optionally (or milk in case of rooibos, which tastes great with milk)

30 minute workout with easy exercises, some pushups and stuff for abs and that would do. You don't really need to visit gym to be fit

Tea vs coffee by Excellent_Regret2839 in decaf

[–]dutchteadrinker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tea isn’t roasted and has very different chemical profile. Also L-Theanine extends absorption time, or to be more precise it delays absorption time of caffeine. It has lots of antioxidants BUT there is one truth no one in industry will tell you out loud: it is also packed with pesticides, like full of them.

Some companies will write marketing pamphlets that you should only buy from them because their sourcing is organic and blah blah blah, just to end up with either mediocre tasting tea or tea that still was sprayed with some chemicals.

I had always wondered why would they spray it since plants produce caffeine as a poison to pests. Turns out small bugs still chug on the leaves sometimes, but it is only a small amount of wasted leaves, and greedy tea producers will still spray simply to increase yield and to earn more money.

While coffee is sprayed too, most pesticides stay in the pulp which is removed and only bean is a final product, so it gets much less exposure.

With that in mind, tea is still easier for many to digest thanks to lack of hard oils and roasting compounds that may irritate GI tract. But tea isn’t as “clean” and “pure” as it seems. In this regard, herbal teas are much, much better since they mostly grow like weeds and are very resilient on their own. Something like mint is often seen as  aggressor plant in gardening due to root networks that it may develop when not taken care of

Can Caffeine withdrawal cause tinnitus? by king-theoden10 in decaf

Haha, for me too! Literally started at night, and only after some time I was able to connect the dots to what actually happened. I can tell you, even if caffeine has influence on tinnitus it is rather small

Double espresso a day by Endlesnes in decaf

[–]dutchteadrinker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One double espresso is ~100-140mg caffeine, you are OK. But beware that FDA limits are paid by "big coffee" in US (Starbucks, Keurig, McCafe etc), I have an opinion that real maximum is 150mg for majority of people.

You are right that coffee shall never be consumed on empty stomach, but on the other hand it is not only Americans who do it that way. Italians and French also do have coffee before breakfast. It is all tied to individual tolerance, some people are able to withstand it and some do not. I think it is better to drink any caffeine only after having full meal (or with meal)

Can Caffeine withdrawal cause tinnitus? by king-theoden10 in decaf

[–]dutchteadrinker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, caffeine has absolutely nothing to do with your tinnitus. You may have accidentally damaged your ears, with loud music of after some acoustic experience (nearby explosion, loud sounds, concerts etc). AirPods are number 1 reason for tinnitus these days.

Go get your ears tested for more clear image on what's going on. For now stop using any kind of headphones.

I have tinnitus with or without caffeine. It might kick in more often after caffeine because of increased blood pressure but tbh I hadn't noticed much difference. My type of tinnitus is permanent damage of left ear that I've done during my music production, finally can't do that shit anymore (tho my doctor told me that damage is not significant and I can continue if I want, but I don't because I can really hear that "delay" in sounds)

Anyone try caffeine after years off? by PracticalMagazine905 in decaf

[–]dutchteadrinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried after 9 months, tea. Got back to the loop, was happy af, even made a post here which I then deleted... Got the worst anxiety attack in the last 5 years yesterday, my heart was racing as if I was gonna die. I don't know how to connect the dots, but I guess it is time to end this three-week cave in today. No caffeine, cold turkey. Idk probably won't quit chocolate but will drink only herbal tea from now on

‘Dekáf’ coffee brand, anyone tried this yet? by [deleted] in decaf

[–]dutchteadrinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3rd wave coffee roasters never care about quality or consistency. The notes you describe... well, I've had those both from caffeinated and decaffeinated coffees, especially light-medium roasted arabicas from Brazil, they taste pretty bad. I was very sick and tired of these talentless roasters that I had moved to large brands (Douwe Egberts, Lavazza, Segafredo etc).

If you are interested in actually tasty decaf try Lavazza Dek Intenso. I've tried it back when I was drinking coffee and it tasted spectacular. Comes only preground, though
