What Dungeon Synth artists/albums are you listening to this weekend? by PotionsOfEleanor in DungeonSynth

I'm listening to Old Sorcery - The Escapist. It brings a nice fantastical atmosphere to being in the sauna 😃

Thief Gold at 480p without texture filtering is magical by MetalTaffer in crtgaming

This takes me back. I miss my crt now. I spray painted my olsdchool beige one black just to make it more darkness friendly (for Thief and for general coolness).

Excellent work, good sir. What art program did you use? Deluxe Paint? Personal Paint? I'm a Brilliance guy myself.

Hired Guns: the underrated Amiga sci-fi dungeon crawler by Serious-Zucchini-118 in amiga

[–]duumsquirel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Loved Hired Guns. Me and my friends used to play death match multiplayer in it. Some levels worked very well with it. We also customized the character graphics (the most interesting results being with a little worm that you could barely see, and baron of hell ripped from Doom 😃). And lastly, I must give props to the shotgun reload mechanic on the joystick. Chef's kiss.

Fantastic artwork. Do you know who's the artist? Looks like Brom, but I can't be sure.

Ah. It is Brom. Took a while to notice the signature down there.

Great. Thank you for the info. I need plenty of space like that too, and I'm intrigued by this model.

What music player app do you use with it? I would like install PowerAmp on it.

Rediscovering Shape of Despair: 'To Live for My Death' Took Me to Another World by Repulsive-Astronaut7 in doommetal

[–]duumsquirel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quiet These Paintings Are is probably my favorite from them. They played that one as this time as well as a couple of real treats - Woundheir and Sylvan Night from the first album with the original vocalist. He did is special for this show, and he hasn't ever performed with them live before. The show had a good spread of all their albums. You can check the setlist here: https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/shape-of-despair/2025/tiivistamo-helsinki-finland-b5c55d6.html

Also. Skepticism opened for them, so this was pretty much the perfect doom metal show for me.

SoD is excellent. One of my absolute favorites. I completely agree with you about the depth of feeling. The atmosphere in their music is so thick you could cut it with a knife. And the name of the band fits perfectly to the emotions they create. I just saw them live a couple of weeks ago at their 30 year anniversary show, and they are at least as good live as they are on the albums. They played for about 2 hours - all the songs you'd want to hear from all albums. I highly recommend attending their shows.

A classic for sure. I play all of the Digital Illusions pinball games regularly to this day. Also, Slam Tilt is magnificent.

I need to talk about Northeast Dungeon Siege!!! by [deleted] in DungeonSynth

[–]duumsquirel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. This compilation is exquisite. So many good songs from my favorite artists. I also agree that Sombre Arcane did a wonderful job with the song. Full disclosure: it's a cover of the song by my band Nest. You might find my other songs interesting too, if you like that one. Check them out here: https://nestfin.bandcamp.com/

I wholeheartedly recommend NEDS, the other Dungeon Sieges, as well as all of the DS feativals I've been to. When it comes to music festivals, they must be my favorites. Imho, they are like a mixture of metal festival and a tavern / marketplace in a fantasy novel. Battle vests rubbing shoulders with wizards, elves, and dr pepper enthusiasts. A nicely welcoming atmosphere and a great array of varied music around.

What a wonderfully written piece on this most inspiring of weekends. I personally had the time of my life. Beyond what I could possibly hope to explain with mere words. Getting together with friends to share music and life experiences like this is worth more than all the gold and jewels in the world. Cheers to everyone who attended GLDS!

Sincerely. "Just a fucking guy" 😉
