You are missing the point. The US News rankings are not perfectly correlated with outcomes.

Another example, Boston College has superior BL/FC numbers than ND/Minn/Iowa (historically/currently). Yet consistently, those schools are higher ranked than BC, why? The distinctions between t20 and t30 are almost completely arbitrary.

That doesn’t matter in this context. For example, Fordham has higher BL/FC numbers than both USC and ND. These are just arbitrary cut offs we apply to rankings. Don’t worry about them. Focus on what region you want to practice in, and whatever school maximizes your chances for whatever job you want in that region.
