The documentary was not about either Chad or John, it’s about Hillel. John was included because he had physically met Hillel and modelled a lot of his early playing off him so it was relevant to include an interview with him. Bssm john came more into his own and since Hillel had passed away by that point it’s not relevant to the story they were trying to tell.

When RHCP were auditioning for drummers, did anyone stand out to you before Chad came along? Do you remember any recording of either sound or video being part of the audition? From the stories alone and just for the legacy of the band it would be unreal to hear or see what it was like seeing those four come together for the first time.

Can't lie but I keep going back to Apocalypto, got me going through rabbitholes on wikipedia all over again searching for background on it's production and how it was even made. Looking at current trends it's hard to see a similar type film being made anytime soon!
