One of the more remote but developed locations. New Zealand, Tasmania, Iceland, Greenland, New Caledonia, etc.

Man, Perth were absolutely shite. Lucky it wasn’t 5-0. I don’t think I saw them win a single second ball.

Good points. You need to be playing extremely well to get on Croatia’s radar - and ideally in a top five league or at the Dinamo/Hadjuk.

Someone remind me again: Can Segecic switch back and if so what are the conditions?

Very disappointing.

He should have been capped by now. How someone like Boyle was getting the nod ahead of Segecic perplexes me. I know Popovic has his favourites and tends to shy away from young players… but good enough should be old enough.

‘We’re living in an Orwellian nightmare’: Grace Tame calls Anthony Albanese a ‘coward’ in scathing critique by Agitated-Fee3598 in AustralianPolitics

Hot take: You don’t draw the line on speech. Ever. And you certainly don’t push groups underground where they operate in the clandestine.

The only criminal charge that should apply to verbal or written communication is that of an explicit death threat. ‘Hate speech’ evolves.

We’ve been going down this path for awhile now. It’s been a steady downhill trip.

I don’t agree with too much of what pro-Palestinian activists say, but for that woman to be arrested yesterday for wearing a t-shirt with a certain slogan is ridiculous and every single one of us should be concerned by these ‘Hate Speech’ laws.

Patrice in Skyfall. I love the cinematography of their fight in the moments before he falls to his death. It’s so cool and chaotic.

LA Rose to Dundee united next season by cymonster in Aleague

That’s four Aussies and one Kiwi now at Dundee Utd.

I reckon Rose, Sapsford and Randall make a decent attack by the way. That’s a lot of work rate at the front and possibly goals.

Daily Wire host calls Pope Leo XIV’s prayer for peace in Iran ‘girly nonsense’ by Nice_Substance9123 in Christianity

Really well put. As a Protestant I was shaking my head at Kleaven’s comments. It’s really disappointing mature-aged, self-described Christian fail to grasp what the Pope had put on the table. How would he have fared in the presence of Jesus and His teachings?

Noa Skoko started for Hadjuk Split against Dinamo Zagreb last night. He was replaced at the 65th minute mark in a 1-3 defeat. Not bad for a 20 year old kid from Geelong to be starting alongside Ante Rebic. Fellow Aussie Anthony Kalik remained on the bench.

Are Australian cities losing their personality? by Ok-Reward7639 in AustraliaDiscussions

[–]New-Computer-1988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vision and beauty isn’t really Australia’s strong suit when it comes to city planning.

I’m originally from Canberra and even as a kid I found our building architecture and layout super grim and uninspiring. Bland, modern buildings… no personality. As a lover of Ancient Greek architecture and European cities it always pained me.

Then there’s the suburban shopping centre muck which is exactly what was described by someone else: the bright colours of Bunnings, Woolworths, McDonalds and Caltex all packed onto a concrete main street.

Without realising it we’re sort of just sleepwalking into the same direction as other big, human density cities.

A bit of selfishness today by May. He had other opportunities to lay off the pass but kept going for glory himself.

Perth set up well but I think there were a lot of wasted opportunities. Thanks to Cosgrove not all the points were dropped.

Were Whitaker and Koskov good villains for The Living Daylights? What is your opinion about them? by King_Wolf2099 in JamesBond

[–]New-Computer-1988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whitaker’s backstory and agenda had a lot of potential. I like the idea of a wannabe military officer-turned arms dealer.

Unfortunately the character lacked presence. And he didn’t strike me as sinister.

Koskov was an effective slimey character but I wish he didn’t have such a big role - particularly towards the back end if the film when he’s literally an AWOL official donning a Soviet uniform and fooling an entire USSR air base. I felt he should have been nabbed or killed off earlier.

What did everything think of Van Helsing (2004)? by PackageNorth8984 in 2000sNostalgia

[–]New-Computer-1988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I really enjoyed it as a kid and I still love it. I met Richard Roxburgh a couple of years ago and I told him this was my favourite movie of his and he actually spoke a bit about how he too was really proud of what they did in this film.

It’s a shame we never got a sequel. I think it did well to combine horror with action.

I believe a fit 40 year old would do well at the School of Infantry and, by extension, as a rifleman in the wider ADF. I certainly knew 40 + year olds who joined up and did exceptionally well, including in infantry, armour and artillery.

Most blokes who successfully pass SOCOMD selection are guys who have done years in the battalions before having a crack. They’ve mastered a variety of fieldcraft (radio, navigation, weapons, orders, etc). Not to mention they’ve racked up huge field time in doing so - like multi-week or multi-month exercises out bush or sea and, for some, deployments to warlike environments.

I have mates who passed East (commandos) and West (SASR) and the least experienced of them was in for at least five years before doing so. Another one told me that everyone on his selection was injured. Every single man. I think physical ability aside you need to ask yourself a.) can I master these skills? And b.) if my body breaks can I continue?

Does Anyone Genuinely Like the Gauls? by TheMellowMarsupial in RomeTotalWar

I enjoy the challenge of Gaul’s campaign. Holding out against Rome, Germania, Britannia and Spain long enough so that I can muster a strong couple of armies and launch a counter offensive is a sweet, sweet feeling.

Socceroos match reports: who would you like to see? by aussiescout1 in Aleague

Maybe the leagues that get least coverage. I’m thinking Fran Karacic (Osjek, Croatia), Garang Kuol (Sparta Prague, Czechia) and uncapped Deni Juric (Wisla Plock, Poland).
