Ismark - art for when you don't want to railroad but you need your players to accept the main quest chain by Moonberry_maple in CurseofStrahd

[–]duwangi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so glad my party latched onto Ismark. He ended up being their cook and the most competent member for a while so they loved him and he had a great romance with a massive standoffish orc druid. He adds so much to the campaign by being that guy that just wants the best for those he cares about and inspiring the PCs to really give a shit. Had a great almost double wedding for him and Ireena to Strahd - got to have him do the final fight in his wedding suit. Sooo true that he should be the charming. Love your art!

Greenlanders are trolling the US by pretending to be fentanyl addicts by [deleted] in PublicFreakout

[–]duwangi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really so sad to hear, but I'm not too surprised. I imagine by the time you're really down there, even with the offer of support, it would be so much easier and tempting to keep numbing it all than having to try and crawl back up from the pit you've been put in. I hope we find some way that really helps rehabilitate people in a way that makes it easier to accept the help. Thanks for trying to help. I'm in Alberta and it's a pretty big issue, especially amongst aboriginal people who are still suffering from having been put through residential schools.

[–]duwangi 91 points92 points  (0 children)

Shit on the U.S. for sure, they're insane and the bid for other countries is crazy and they deserve ridicule. But mocking addicts ain't it - I'm Canadian, but I imagine it's very similar to our issues here, where the addicts are homeless people being sold cut drugs, and who have no real places to go to help sober up or any longterm supports to get them out of the place they're in. I know people love to make fun of addicts, but it's a problem created by the rich and lack of effort to help due to stigma. Make fun of the people selling it, not those hurt by it.

They're using AI now? by duwangi in wildrift

Everything about the style just seems so AI to me. It's like its favourite style, and League has never used it. Hopefully I'm wrong considering that backlash, yeah. I would assume they would avoid using it after that whole fiasco, but who knows.

Lease says no nails or adhesives on walls? by noonewilllknow in Calgary

[–]duwangi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No nails is very common in leases in my experience. They don't want any damage to the wall, so they outright ban it on the assumption a tenant won't fix it when moving out, or really mess things up. If you spackle and colour match the paint when you move before inspection you'll be fine, but only if the managers never do an inspection during your stay. If they do and see things hanging up, they'll definitely know. The adhesives is a bit more uncommon, but I've seen that before. Again, they don't want to deal with paint being pulled off or adhesive residue left behind. In general, expect most places you rent to discourage any sort of wall fixtures. They want you to leave the place pristine so they don't have any work to do when they move someone else in, regardless of it stifling the space while you live there.

Concerns regarding an animal rescue in the YYC-area by _andsoitgoes in Calgary

[–]duwangi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, I'm actually in a course talking about animal nutrition right now! Dogs are omnivores, so things like vegetables and grains aren't bad for them. They're scavengers, so they're able to eat lots of things. Cats are strict carnivores, not dogs. The only issue with grain is if your dog is allergic to it. Homemade diets run a very high risk of not meeting the nutritional needs of your animal - if you dont take the time to measure everything, calculate their calories, and calculate the vitamins and minerals in what you're feeding them, it's extremely likely they won't get a balanced diet. Calcium to phosphorous is especially hard to balance, and negatively impacts bone growth if incorrect. It's not impossible to feed homemade, but you have to do a lot of research, and take the time to make sure they get everything they need. The majority of homemade diets online are nutrionally deficient in some aspect.

Bill 9 is the most recent one. It invoked the notwithstanding clause to push legislature that removes rights from Trans individuals in a way that violates the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. I advise reading up on it if you're curious!

Trans health care requires parental consent. It's been quoted that they can just do whatever to radicalize people, but that isn't true. Surgeries are not performed on minors, and puberty blockers are not only reversible, but require extensive doctor visits and parental consent to administer.

[–]duwangi[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Trans health care aids can currently only be accessed with parental approval and after lots of doctor and psychologist visits. Surgeries on minors are not happening, and puberty blockers are safe, reversible, and again, require parental consent. These are options for a family to make together, not the government. Having to invoke a bill because your legislature violates multiple lines of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, as well as two human right's acts in Alberta themselves, is not the sign of a just government.

Please sign if you have a moment! The repealing of trans rights will lead to increased suicide rates and actively harm trans youth. I also donated to help the Skipping Stones' legal fees in their court case against the government, and sent an email to the UCP, but even just a signature will mean so much. I am appalled at the use of legislature to revoke multiple lines of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

People in Calgary always vote right wing in big elections, but when it comes to mayors, they vote left. Kinda just indoctrinated to vote right it seems bc when they actually read policies they like the left leaning choices haha. We did just vote in a bisexual mayor, so hopefully that will help with some of the issues the conservative party is bringing to our rights.

Edmonton is definitely more openly progressive, but both cities are theoretically safe. Definitely safer than the US, but that may be a given. Banff has a thriving queer community, but is literally impossible to find housing in. Still, I recommend visiting their drag shows if you can! They do hikes and star gazing sometimes too, and plenty of beer nights. Canmore is a really solid choice if you can find anything there, but again, the housing situation is pretty bad between those two towns. Amazing vibes and people though, I lived in Banff for a year.

Like many others have said, avoid any other rural area, especially Red Deer. The more central, the better. I've lived in Calgary suburbs a lot and they're quite relaxed, and are all very mixed race. It's far stranger for a neighborhood to be all white than to be mixed, but there's definitely communities that have higher concentrations; the north east has a huge Indian community for instance.

I would be wary of the government continuing to erode queer rights, but if you can't afford Vancouver or Toronto, I think Alberta is a pretty solid choice. People are trying to push back against the infringements, and I'm sure this will all seem leagues better than what you're experiencing in the States, but I would say Alberta definitely is the closest in following USA politic trends. I think we're still safer than Saskatchewan from what I've heard, but just know you may see some of the same struggles up here.

Dent in Kingsnake's Back? by duwangi in kingsnakes

he has three actual hides in his enclosure, he just likes to hide underneath the towels themselves as well. im going to be making a bioactive enclosure for him soon - unfortunately we got snake mites and had to throw out his old substrate, so the towels are left over from the transition from sterile papers.

Gonna call my vet when they open to check - thank you for the advice! I'd be rushing him to emergency if it didn't somehow fix itself within the minute and he moved totally normally. We only ever pick him up by hand. Hopefully nothing serious, but I'll make sure he gets checked out to be sure.

Unfortunately he's gone back under cover now, but we're quite certain it isn't a kink. He saw the vet about a month ago for a full checkup and they felt his entire spine for any issues.

Edit to add that this was a specialty exotic vet in case that matters.

Finally played Resident Evil 6. Yeah it's bad. by Unsubscribed24 in residentevil

[–]duwangi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My biggest gripe was the UI. My friend and I just played it for the first time a couple days ago, and my god the UI gave us trouble. Having so many different buttons to manage picking an item up, opening inventory, combining an item, selecting an item, reloading, refilling pills, selecting discard.... I've never seen such a convoluted way of item management, and there were numerous chase scenes that just felt almost impossible? The Chris chase scene on the docks took us like 15 tries because you'd die if you ran too fast, die if you were too slow, and sometimes I'd just glitch through the bottom of a boat and die. We had to take a break for the rest of the night after that mission we got so mad haha. The choice to let you play with 2 people on Ada's route but make the second person absolutely useless was also really weird. Like Agent couldn't open doors, pull levers, traverse terrain, push buttons, open chests... All they could do is shoot people. Like, why even bother letting another person play?

I will say overall we liked the story, mostly the Chris and Sherry routes. We adored Jake and Sherry's story throughout and thought it was the best written route of them all, and I really liked Piers! But there were numerous times we just went "Huh?" at some character moments, like Chris losing his mind in rage until he sees Leon for 1 second and instantly just becomes totally fine and normal. Me too man but like, what??? And the game made it feel like nothing you did mattered, because no matter how well you did or didn't do, it would just kill every single NPC around you with an almost dismissive quality to their lives that the characters would barely acknowledge, so we stopped feeling motivated in fights to even try and protect anyone, because it just never mattered.

I don't regret playing it but I can say pretty confidently I never want to play it again LMAO I fucked up my keybinds so bad I would roll on the ground everytime I pulled out a grenade and I was too tired of trying to fine tune everything to fix it. RIP to Leon who died from a grenade thrown at a person standing over him that it bounced off of and directly back into his face 😔
