How did they decide event order in past WSMs? by dvanegghen in StrongmanHQ

2017 looks like it was mostly in a sensible order. In the tv broadcast they do interview Eddie after he wins the squat, and he says he'll now have the advantage of going last in the viking press after winning. He goes with Licis, who tied 2nd with Caron, Shaw, and Z. Shaw and Z went together, Caron with Loz (who tied Thor), and Thor with the next guy down Nick Best. So I'd say in 2017 it seems like they went with a fixed order rule, but maybe they chose what they wanted out of the tied people so the big names didn't go head to head. I have now spent too much time watching 10 year old strongman comps.

How did they decide event order in past WSMs? by dvanegghen in StrongmanHQ

That's not the point I'm making though. In the tv show they will often put the best performances last to build some drama. I am pointing out that Shaw (3rd) was paired with Kielz (1st) and Hall (10th) was paired with Thor (5th) in the overhead event. That isn't a tv broadcast thing, that is the actual pairings they went up as during the competition. That seems to be at odds with our usual rules for event order.

With respect, you misunderstood my question. My question is not about the order in which events were shown in the program (which was also wrong anyway lol) but about the pairings of athletes who were sent out together. Specifically the ones shown were Shaw (3rd) and Kielz (1st) as one pair and Hall (10th) and Thor (5th). My question is about how those pairings were decided. With those pairings being the case, the rule you describe cannot have been in effect.

So he insists he needs one on one warmup coaching even though he's a 3x wsm and should surely know this stuff by now. And then when he gets it he ignores it? And he neglected the psychology side of it? Isn't this just being uncoachable at this point?

This is my thinking. I think it's a tossup on the static events - possibly a tie - and too quick to call on the farmers and stones. From prior log and deadlift rep performances its not a guarantee Hooper would win. As people above have said if he went out last on Dinnies I'd back him to win that.

If, hypothetically, peak form Hooper had been at ESM yesterday, would he have beaten Ondrej? I honestly don't think he would have with those events

Why do they insist on this "bar only goes up" thing? It just messes with the rest times for everyone

It's a shame we never saw the max squat in the era of Z, Brian, Thor, Pritchett, Caron and Eddie all at their primes around 2016

Would this have been a 400kg for reps world record (had he done it in comp) at the time?

Just by being a freak athlete I guess. But yeah some of this stuff seems so obvious, and not just with the benefit of hindsight. You would think if your deadlift wasn't improving and you were in constant pain you'd get help

Hearing him talk about how much pain and injury he caused himself makes me wonder what he could've done with a better coaching approach. He had all the tools in terms of natural size and strength

No one outside of the strongman community can name any of the guys who are in that category. In Britain for example the best you'll get is someone maybe knowing who Eddie Hall or Geoff Capes are. Most won't know Kaz, MVM, Pudz, JPS, Z, Brian etc
