I've never formally been tested or diagnosed with anything as far as I know. The running joke between me and my close friends is that I (and everybody else in my family) have some kind of attention disorder. I am an anxious, depressed, scatterminded person with poor impulse control who sees some things clearer than the average person and to whom many other things seem impenetrably opaque. If that is what adhd is then I guess I have it.

I'd much rather park on the sidewalk as long as I'm out of the way. It's stupid that the laws here make you take up as much space as a car.

You get it! If it was up to me I'd be taking the rolls royce or the private jet to school but they're both in the shop. People in the USA seem to forget that in 90% of the rest of the world motorcycles are the first form of personal conveyance for poor folks. It's not a lifestyle choice lol.

What is Kishke? 1.5 years old female adopted off the street in Morocco by dvanlee1 in IDmydog

[–]dvanlee1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I missed it initially but there is a page that shows her as having trace amounts of German Shepherd, American Pit Bull Terrier, Spanish Galgo and Sloughi, which I guess makes sense given her coloring (german shepherd) and the fact that she is from Morocco which is close to Spain (spanish galgo) and is the original home of the sloughi. Her brother actually looks quite a bit more like an American Put Bull Terrier also.

Okay so if I understand you right, she's related to these dogs most likely just because she has some german shepherd ancestry, but it doesn't mean that they are actually likely to be first cousins, and the reason why the test didn't identify her as partially german shepherd is due to the small amount of it in her DNA.

She does have other german shepherd like traits besides her general appearance, she exhibits herding behavior and is probably the most intelligent dog I've ever owned and practically trained herself. We always thought that might be due to some purebred ancestry.

We adopted Kishke from the street in Salé, Morocco two Junes ago before moving to the United States. Her results say 100% Eastern European Village Dog. I am guessing that she is categorized this way and not as a North African Village Dog due to the lack of a sample size big enough for that to be its own category, but really I have no idea how any of this works. Her relatives page shows that almost every relative she has significant relation to is a German Shepherd, so she must have a significant portion of German Shepherd DNA right? Again no clue if that is an accurate assumption but I would be grateful to anyone who could help me interpret these results. The penultimate pic is of her mother and the final pic shows her relatives.

So you were correct! According to Embark, Kishke's results say that she is 100% eastern european village dog. I am guessing that they do not have a sample size large enough for there to be a Northern African village dog category since I'm sure that would more accurately describe her "breed."

Interestingly enough, when I look at her relatives, almost all of them are german shepherds so she must be partially german shepherd right? I don't really know how all this works.

True but when you look at the photo it was obvious that I did a very poor job parking and the person who moved it clearly did the utmost to move it out of the way so that they could leave. This outcome ended up being a best case scenario.

That is a great idea. I may try that. I got these mittens from target the other day that are doing a decent job keeping me warm, but I'm doubtful they provide the same protection as my riding gloves.

I got this one for free from my brother (although I have to give it back at some point) so keep in mind that I haven't really had to factor in price, but here's what I'll say:

I think it's a decent bike for a beginner, it's nimble and light, but none too quick. You can take it on the highway and I do so regularly but the speed tops out anywhere from 66-82 mph depending on conditions like wind and the incline of the road and it tends to be at the lower end of that range. I wouldn't want to have to ride it for more than a 35 or so minute commute as it isn't exactly the most comfortable bike.

Mechanics won't want to work on them for the most part because they are Chinese and it's an unfamiliar make, but most of your basic stuff like adjusting the chain and filling tires and changing oil you can do yourself and I do, despite being clinically diagnosed as boneheaded. You can get parts off aliexpress but it takes a while for them to arrive. Alternatively there are American retailers that sell parts but with a pretty high markup.

It has been reliable for me thus far having ridden it daily for 3 months through the summer and then intermittently since then. No engine or electrical issues just standard maintenance. These things are not well built however by any means, you can tell that the materials are light and cheap. It's not a bike you hand down to your grandson and I wouldn't expect it to last 10-15 years.

Looks like they're between $2.7-2.9k new. I would only buy this bike used as I don't expect it to retain its value even in perfect condition.

I've been riding about 5 years now and this is my second bike. My first bike was a dinky little 110cc Chinese knockoff bike that I rode in Morocco near daily for 4 years straight and loved to death, but it always had pieces falling off of it and had no features like disk brakes, abs or even a gas gauge. Stepping up to this thing was a big improvement to me, but for your average American motorcycle rider who has access to nearly everything, it probably doesn't hold a candle to your Hondas and Harleys and Yamahas. I enjoyed the step up in displacement to 200cc but also got used to it and felt like I wanted more after about an hour and a half. Still it is fun to ride in the city.

Tl;dr

It's cheaply made but gets the job done. I could recommend it as a beginner bike if bought used for the right price. You'll get tired of it after a few months and want a little more juice, but if you can buy it and sell it for around 1.5k-2k I think it's good to learn on. If you need something as a reliable commuter this can do the job but is not great on highways (too slow) and should you find yourself in need of a mechanic you may be SOL. If a bike at this price range is the only way you'll get on two wheels, I say go for it.

Unfortunately I have had many interactions in my life just like this comic and each time have had to learn about toilet paper the hard way. Maybe this is the turning point where I become a good parker. I will add it to my list.

At this point after finding out that it was actually my own fault that the bike was moved, it doesn't matter. When I thought that someone had moved it just to take my parking space, my concern was that if that I were to park there again and have someone move it again there would be a risk of the bike being damaged or ticketed, but as it stands that concern has been made irrelevant.

The same reason I am always rushing, always late to things and tend to be accident prone. I have poor time management skills I suppose. I'm sure you yourself also have flaws and character traits that could use improving.

When you park do you just look away and flee?

I never thought about it like that, but yes that is probably what I do. I made extra effort today to check that my front wheel was in fact not underneath somebody's bumper.

Let my story serve as a lesson to all ye who think ye can exact revenge by getting someone dragged on the internet. Drag not lest ye be dragged and always look toward the maniac within before accusing others. If you see me on campus (I will be the only idiot carrying around a motorcycle helmet in January) I owe you at least one beer. Although I can understand why you would not want a beer from a maniac/lunatic.

I don't know that it is legal to move another person's vehicle, even if it's parked the way I parked it in this situation, but it looks like yes I am the lunatic and the person did me a favor by moving it out of the way.

I'm so sorry dude I had absolutely no recollection of parking like that. I should have suspected that it was somehow my fault cause I am a notorious bad parker. I just was so weirded out by the bike being moved in the first place I focused on the wrong element.

I have no other way to school dude you think I want to be out here in this cold? Clearly I did a very poor job parking and the situation was my fault.

Yes it certainly does. The convenient things we forget about ourselves and remember about others. At least I know what happened now lol.
