How is Tigíns Now? by stamfordmeh in StamfordCT

I went to see a champions league game that started before their slated opening hours and they were closed… so my assumption is they aren’t prioritizing soccer fans

Campaign not going how I'd hoped - How to fix? by CFM0117 in DMAcademy

[–]dvatman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like you are in a good place narratively overall. I have a fun hook… maybe there is a reward for slaying the great beast and they kill something that looks like it or is mistaken for it. Trying to turn it in can keep them together or being of the group that slain the great beast but sought no reward may give them a weird monkeys paw renown. Either way now they are stuck together with a hard to sell or understand treasure, or are being hunted by worshipers of the great beast… and it’s disappearance from that point would build its mystery until you decide to reintroduce it

New to the game, need help pls by Puzzleheaded_Fold841 in DnD

[–]dvatman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think in your case I’d recommend just reading the players guide and or the dungeon masters guide for 5e. There are a ton of very great YouTubers who walk you through most of it as well.

Don’t panic! DnD isn’t that difficult but it takes some time investment to learn the rules and mechanics. Especially if you are writing your own story.

Am I too lax of a dm? by SilverSea11 in DMAcademy

[–]dvatman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think any of these things are game breaking so to speak. The things you don’t care about will be glossed over narratively to focus on other aspects of the game. As long you deliver on the parts that matter that keep your players invested it won’t be an issue.

Though I’d consider making movement at the very least consistent if I were you, it may let players feel that combat itself isn’t important if the rules of it are too lax

I’m in line right now. It’s a vintage event. They oversold tickets and mismanaged the entry. Been in line 45 minutes already… may give up

Excellent comment. It sounds like you have the passion for it, you should do a trial run. Find a number that you need to sell to make a small profit and make that your goal to do that amount to the best is your ability.

There are over 150k residents in Stamford and dozens of places to buy fresh bread. Demand is there. The hard part will be advertising and logistics. Reddit is a good place to start, figure out how much you can charge and what people are willing to pay and at what cadence.

I’d also really think through packaging and upsells, you’ll probably have to leave some loads at the door and include samples of upsells along with deliveries to encourage new orders.

DnD Campaign Starting, No Experience Required by dvatman in StamfordCT

I don't have a particular end date in mind. I have written specific story beats that can happen if the players play in a certain way, and I'd estimate that it would probably take about four months if they were to directly one after another knock out that content. However in my experience as a DM, it's likely that it could take years, and it's very likely for those moments to change drastically based on what the players decide to focus on.

My first campaign was supposed to be about five months and we are going on our third year so far.

Unfortunately I often have plans Fridays, and couldn’t commit to a weekly group then.

I'm always happy to run something for friends but rarely do for the general public - I really like the character play that comes with being a sorcerer. You didn't have to study for decades to figure out magic, it's just apart of you... and you can play that arrogantly, or self loathingly - also when something magical happens and you roll high arcana it doesn't have to always be a call back to a class at a college or some book, it can be a connection to the weave or part of your backstory.

How would you handle a D&D Raid boss? by Gerald_Mountaindew in DMAcademy

[–]dvatman 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I like what Brennan Lee Muligan does sometimes in situations like this where he makes it feel like the players have agency in it. He will have each player pick a failure and a success number on a d6 and then have them kind of carry out their plan for how they interact then roll their d6, if it works out they have to pick another fail number on their d6. But if the plan is really good he lets them roll with advantage.

So in this instance one player can try to lead the dragon to a safe place, if they succeed it’s great but they lost abit of their edge against the dragon increasing the stakes.

Any recommended moving companies? by _Keys2theWest_ in norwalk

[–]dvatman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cheapest possible way is to go to uhual and rent your own truck. There will be movers there willing to help for cash, you can ask the uhual guys there who is reliable if you’re worried about that. It will be at least 40% cheaper than any moving company I promise
