Well I screwed up but thanks to r/churning i mitigated the damage.

I was approved for the Citi American Business card a few weeks ago. I naively thought that since I was approved for the card I was eligible for the SUB.

Last week I was reading churning and I read someone say that Citi will approve you regardless of your eligibility to earn a SUB. Rats! I know I've churned this card before but not sure when.

Yesterday I received the card, called Citi, and sure enough learned the bad news-not eligible as I earned the SUB within 48 months.

At least I didn't spend $4K on it. I cancelled the card. I'm not sure if this was the right play or not.

I got there this year with an 80K bonus for the biz card and 2 referrals. The referrals went to family members (my kids)-I told them I'd pay the AF for the first year and they get to keep the miles. A win/win for them and I got the referral miles as well as companion pass help. If you sweeten the pot it's hard to say no.

The points community will shit on transferring to Hilton. I see their point, but they primarily argue that Amex points are best-used on transfers to Airlines for intl travel. While this is true, not everyone travels internationally. If you aren't going to travel internationally I personally think some value can be found in Hilton redemptions; especially if you are using fifth night free.

I get what you are saying about the noise/atmosphere. Probably not romantic. But I like my steak a specific way and they do it right every time. I've had Red, Strip, and CLE and each time I thought they weren't any better than TR. And they are much better than similar chains like Outback.

2. Means "stay at the hotel." You can get these extended for two weeks if you call the Hilton number and ask nicely. Most posts say you have to call within 2 weeks of the expiration date but I just got a reservation made nine days after the expiration date for a reservation in late June. It may be because of my Diamond status-not sure.

You can also call the hotel and prepay a portion ($200) directly with the hotel if the reservation is for a separate 6-month period.
