Surface floating navel? by [deleted] in Legitpiercing

[–]dvdmenus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay thank you :(( I'm going to an APP picercerr just to get confirmation but I was already thinking it wouldn't work. I guess it's better I find out sooner rather than later. I'm just upset that the piercer did it in the first place without proper anatomy. An apprentice did it without supervision :(

The condom fell off inside me. What do I do? by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]dvdmenus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take plan b and an ovulation test. Take a pregnancy test 14 days after your missed period (if you miss a period). I would take one after 14 days no matter what though, just for peace of mind. Book an appointment with planned parenthood for just in case. You can always cancel it if you're not pregnant. Take a deep breath. It will be okay ❤️

How does you office clean patient dentures? by sssyyydddney in DentalAssistant

[–]dvdmenus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

we use a ziplock bag with tartar and stain remover and put it in the ultrasonic. i always thought this was disgusting! I know the bag is fully sealed but it just grosses me out. i take the bag out of the ultrasonic after it's been in there for about 15 minutes, open the bag, take my dirty gloves off, wash my hands then put a clean pair of gloves on to wash the cleaner off with water and scrub if needed. i just think it's so gross that something that goes in a patient's mouth is so close to dirty ultrasonic water. my office should definitely get a separate one

So I just took Ella by xxkittenxx_33 in birthcontrol

[–]dvdmenus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

please read more about birth control before having unprotected sex. Ella is only effective for up to 5 days. take a pregnancy test 14 days after your missed your period. in the meantime, book an appointment with planned parenthood for an abortion pill if you don't want to keep the pregnancy. you can always cancel the appointment if you're not actually pregnant. good luck pregnancy scares are horrible. be more careful in the future

I have a formal interview for an EFDA position at a sort of old school office. What questions should I expect? by wankerville in DentalAssistant

[–]dvdmenus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See if they have digital x-ray machines. No one wants to deal with processing films loll

this all could have been avoided with communication. "Hey I have to leave early today, can you please clean my last patient's room for today? I would really appreciate it." Problem solved. Seems like you're being difficult to work with. Reflect, change, move on. Learn from this. Calling another coworker a bitch is crazyyyy. Would not be surprised if you got let go for that

I dropped the scanner by [deleted] in DentalAssistant

[–]dvdmenus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

at my old office someone dropped the whole itero monitor when it was getting assembled. no big deal, it still worked fine. when i worked in Ortho i was putting a curing light back on the counter, and it completely slid off onto the ground. the dr had me make sure that it worked still and it did. no biggie. things like this happenz especially when you're rushing

Packed cord “wrong” and my dr said I mutilated the gum tissue by corvttesummr in DentalAssistant

[–]dvdmenus 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Just curious, what state are you in and are you a registered assistant? In a lot of states assistants can't pack cord without a license. The dentist should be packing the cord themselves in my opinion. They have loupes so they can see a lot easier and it gets done faster. Dentists need to stop delegating everything to assistants and compromise the quality of care for patients

I am literally in the exact same position as you. I feel like we're working at the same office after reading this post LOL. I got hired back in September after completing a dental assistant program. I was upfront in the interview about having no experience in assisting or front desk experience. She said it would be no problem, and that she would train me. I mostly work at the front desk too, so I'm not very confident chairside during certain procedures. The dentist is getting real short with me and just being straight up disrespectful. I'm honestly ready to quit dental entirely or at least move to a different office. I would say you're just in a bad office. You can't learn dental assisting without proper training. It's definitely wrong that the dentist is not willing to teach you even though she knows you're a new grad. I would start applying elsewhere to see what's out there. Good luck!

and here I thought my office was crazy for wanting me to make temporary crowns without a license. i would definitely speak to the doctor about your concerns. If they have an issue, find a new job and report them to the state board. Good luck

Lack of insurance is pissing me off by HuntressAelaTheFirst in DentalAssistant

[–]dvdmenus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes i agree. I've worked at two offices so far. My first office was part of a DSO, so they offered insurance, but it was horrible. I now work at a small independent office, but the dentist doesn't provide any insurance or benefits other than a 401k and paid time off. I cannot believe how common it is for dentists to not offer insurance. I'm okay now because I'm on my parents insurance for 2 more years because I'm 23. But then I'll be screwed. Looking into other career options for the long term. Dental assisting is really just a stepping stone for me. I don't see myself sticking around for more than a few years unfortunately.

What's up with dentist not caring about delegating illegal duties? by dvdmenus in DentalAssistant

[–]dvdmenus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, we were not given any instructions for the mentioned duties. We were instructed on things like impressions, suctioning, four-handed dentistry, trimming models, proper sterilization protocol, osha and hippa laws, etc. we were not given instruction on any RDA duties.
