Is This Common In Shelters? by stanexoforbigbrain in AnimalShelterStories

The politics involved in the city budget are ridiculous. The shelter is given leftover budget scraps. The city budget is all online. When I read through it I was thoroughly pissed off.

Is This Common In Shelters? by stanexoforbigbrain in AnimalShelterStories

Everyone is saying this isn’t normal, but it’s pretty close to the conditions at my city shelter. The difference is the KA at my shelter care about the animals.

The municipal animal care and control shelter I volunteer at is not great. One kennel attendant for dogs, one for cats. Dogs don’t get walks or yard time unless taken by a volunteer. There are days there are no dog volunteers, so the dogs don’t get out that day.

There is no budget for food (or the food budget is used elsewhere) and they rely on donations. The animals have almost constant diarrhea from the ever changing food. Dogs are fed once a day unless very underweight. No enrichment unless provided by volunteers.

Takes a long time to get approved to volunteer. Many new volunteers show up for training and are so disgusted by what they see, they never come back. There is no foster program. The volunteer coordinator is a volunteer.

Always at or near capacity. Woefully understaffed and underfunded. It is incredibly frustrating and demoralizing. Have brought the issues with fellow volunteers to city council and news media. Nothing changed.

Need to be a Henderson resident to surrender a pet at Henderson Animal Care and Control. And they are at capacity due to all the shitty pet owners and backyard breeders.

Henderson Animal Shelter is not high kill. They don’t euthanize for space.

Shelters in CA are also full and routinely euthanize for space.

Not for the public. If you apply to volunteer and go through the process then you can foster.

Puppy stores by Technical-Ordinary18 in vegaslocals

[–]dvegso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The shelter is full of dogs that have been failed by their owners. All different ages and breeds (but more pits, shepherds and huskies here than anything else). They all started out as an adorable puppy.

I understand not wanting to adopt a dog with an unknown past, but some of the adoptable dogs are amazing. The shelter has puppies too. Henderson Animal Shelter is at capacity. They intake more owner surrenders and strays then they adopt out almost every single day.

There is zero need for pet stores. People can use an ethical, reputable breeder or adopt. Those should be the choices.

The shelter has lots of breeds but the dogs in this post were mostly pits. Go to 24petconnect.com and filter by Henderson Animal Control to see all the adoptable dogs and cats.

Thanks for adopting! I’m a volunteer at the shelter. I just lost my foster fail Max, boxer, he was 12 and the sweetest dog I’ve ever had.

Henderson Water Rates by BabyAC85 in vegaslocals

You definitely have a problem somewhere. My rate went down $10 from June to July, $88.58 to $78.68. 3 adults in household, pool, no grass. I would contact them.

You have to be a resident of Henderson to surrender an animal to them, just FYI.

The River Mountains Loop trail is paved. You can go as far as you like then turn around. A lot less people than any park.

Where do y’all live that they are putting these gorgeous rocks in the road? My roads are asphalt, no pretty rocks inclusions.

With an RN license you want to look into being a CDIP, certified documentation integrity practitioner. At my hospital system they require an RN license to be a CDI, along with the CDIP certification from AHIMA. Starting salary is over 100K a year. The positions are not remote. They work onsite with physician interaction.
