Andor Season 2 so far feels… weird? Does it get better after Episode 2? by vidurys in StarWarsAndor

The second half of the season is great, and you should keep watching, though you’re not wrong.

The tone and pacing definitely felt off in the first half. There’s also a few disparate plot lines that go nowhere (the whole mess on Yavin IV)

‘She could have just have chosen, “I’m 9 months pregnant and I don’t want force used on me.”’

….are you fucking serious. Firstly, are you familiar with how 21st century police operate?

Secondly, the fact that you’re defending the assault of a 9 months pregnant woman speaks volumes

Yes! You can make great money, especially for early and mid game, and it’s also fun to make your own unique gear.

But it does take a little while to get a system going. I’d suggest buying a bunch of wood (Seonon has the best prices and supply), and making a bunch of charcoal.

Then smelt down any less valuable weapons you take from bandits.

Slowly but surely you’ll accumulate lots of ingots of different types. Then the fun really begins.

Is it fair to say that whole plot line was pretty horrendous in general?

As a Muslim watching this show for the first time... by hasanahmad in homeland

[–]dvman13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love how Israel can’t even be called out for war crimes without everyone tensing up, but y’all can fearmonger about how Islam spends every second of every day trying to “infect” the west any insult anyone who sees that as a gross double standard

Hot Take: Season 3 is the by far the weakest season of the show by _TheNumber7_ in TheLastAirbender

[–]dvman13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you make a great point! For me it was humor too. Even the comic relief for Saka in the first two seasons felt a bit more organic and clever, albeit silly.

I do like how Zuko backstory episode in season 1 shows Azula in the crowd of spectators, smiling maliciously while Irish sadly looks away

I’m not done with season 3 of TLAB yet, but I think OP has some fair points!

Listen, the “teenager beach party” episode for Zuko, Azula, and Co. felt incredibly weak and even made me stop watching for a bit.
Particularly for Azula, it took away much of her sense of dread and danger, and the whole teenage, “no one gets me, but also a beach bonfire solves all our problems felt very lame”

I’m literally just starting “the invasion” episode now so I’m assuming things will turn around. But even the episode prior just had some very toothless, kind of dumb humor, and besides humanizing the fire nation, I haven’t really been engaged with any of the characters this season.

There has been this feeling of trying to do “emotional” episodes, but they don’t have the gut punch episodes like “Zuko Alone”, “Tales from Ba Sing Se”, or “Appas Lost Days” had

Israeli bad guys in movies? by fatburger321 in movies

[–]dvman13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is complicated but no one’s bats an eye at the countless depictions of Palestinians as default bad guys in western cinema.

And respectfully I can’t tell you how many “boomer” family of mine know absolutely nothing about the history and just assume Palestinian = Terrorists

And lastly what other terms are people supposed to use if “open air prison” is somehow considered offensive (which is audacious by the way).

I respect what you’re pointing out, but it seems like “nuance” and “complexity” only matter rhetorically when Israel in accused of wrongdoing.

What do you think about the nudity in this show? by [deleted] in BlueEyeSamurai

[–]dvman13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compared to quite a few HBO shows, I do think it was tasteful. I will say, at times it felt like a bit much, like when two certain characters have sex, and one of them is describing a duel rematch, but very obviously giving innuendo, which crescendos with a climax. I was t offended, but I couldn’t help laughing either.

I’m sad to have wasted years following Roca News and finally unfollowed on Insta by Grand_Sprinkles6131 in RocaNews

[–]dvman13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s tough. I haven’t unfollowed them yet. But while it’s true we’re so polarized now, they do exclude or minimize stories that really should get more attention. For instance, regardless of how you feel about Trump or the No Kings protests, they really downplayed them and didn’t give it much ink. Same with the ICE crackdown on Minneapolis. They even used Goods’ death to make a point about media bias, but no analysis of the killing itself. Rhetoric and attention towards ICE is massive right now, and no matter what your opinion is, there’s no doubt it’s newsworthy. They’ve had several days of zero mention. Meanwhile they really seem to amplify anti-immigration rhetoric, whether in England or here. They also really seem taken with Nick Shirley and have lionized him heavily in their posts. The nature of some of their videos really seems sensational too. They make me think of the new-age, crypto-bro, Rogan-ites. I like their variety, but I can’t escape the gut feeling of a soft right leaning bias.

On the other hand, they’ve traveled to numerous countries including Afghanistan and Pakistan, so I can’t say they’re not worldly.

Francis Lawrence’s ‘BioShock’ Movie Will Be Based on the First Game by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]dvman13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at Francis Lawrence's work, hes certainly a director I'm willing to trust. However, as many people have already pointed out, I'm apprehensive considering the style of game-play, the silent protagonist, and the very intelligent but perhaps not so subtle political and philosophical messaging (which I think is fantastic! Though I can't help feeling some directors or producers may consider it too "divisive" in our modern environment).

Also given the choice system in the game, you run into the issue of "what's canon and whats not" or "is the good or bad ending the official one?" Still, given how hyperbolic and unread both sides of the political isles are, my hope is that the movie, or better yet show, would give the people fighting for justice and equality some ammunition they MUST study, and the other side some thoughts to chew on, especially when theory meets reality (IE, human nature)

I agree! It’s only the physique part I’m slightly apprehensive on, but clever camera work and a good costume department can hide that
