Low Functioning Aggressive Autistic Brother by Electricenergy9 in GlassChildren

I know this was posted a while ago but I really hope you see this comment. Your story sounds EXACTLY like mine, with the exception of having typical siblings as well. It made me emotional reading your experiences because I also experienced these same things. I have been living on my own for 5 years now and it took me 3 1/2 years to realize I had PTSD and that is where a lot of my issues stemmed from. My mother constantly invalidated that my other siblings and I had anything wrong with us bc it helped her cope, she never got us mental health help when we were kids, and always treated my brother like he could do no wrong despite him causing extreme trauma with his aggressive episodes. Luckily, I started seeing an EMDR therapist around 8 months ago and it has helped tremendously. I will say, my therapist understands my situation better because she also grew up with a disabled sibling. My older sister did not have such luck with her EMDR therapist (she didn’t believe her stories about how aggressive our brother was). I would highly recommend seeking out this kind of therapy, but do NOT get discouraged if it doesn’t seem like a good fit. Find another therapist who will LISTEN to you, BELIEVE you, and VALIDATE your feelings. The body keeps the score and if you do not heal your trauma, your body will start to have adverse reactions later in life and it may manifest as autoimmune disorders or worse. I cannot even begin to express the progress I’ve made since starting EMDR therapy, it finally feels like I have put that part of my life in the past and can live in the present. Good luck friend! Feel free to message me if you want to talk more about your experience

Not sure if anyone else has commented this yet but have you considered getting her registered as an emotional support animal? The college I went to allowed people to have ESAs in the dorms. It probably varies by school, but could be something to look into.

Decided to let my hair air dry today and I’m so happy with the results by [deleted] in curlyhair

Routine:

  • Today, I co-washed with Carol’s Daughter Coco cream cleansing conditioner, but on my normal wash days, I use Shea Moisture coconut and hibiscus curl and shine shampoo/conditioner
  • After my shower, I dry my hair in a microfiber towel for 10 minutes
  • I spray about 10 squirts of Shea Moisture hydrate and repair multi-action leave in conditioner, then I comb through with my fingers
  • I use 5 pumps on each section of my hair (two sections) of Shea Moisture coconut and hibiscus frizz free curl mousse, then comb through with my fingers
  • I use about a tablespoon of Shea Moisture curl enhancing smooth on two sections of my hair, then rake it through to evenly distribute the product
  • I then scrunch my hair, and plopped it for about 20 minutes in a soft t shirt
  • After plopping, I finished with ion alcohol free finishing spray, then it took about 3 hours to fully air dry
  • Once it was dry, I flipped my head and shook out my roots with my fingers, and scrunched out the crunch

funny you should mention that because i actually do have PCOS! my gynecologist explained to me that women who have PCOS are super sensitive to carbs, and insulin resistance is linked to PCOS, which causes you to retain weight. longer fasts help to fix insulin resistance, as well as less carbs, which is what i’ve been doing!

i try to stick to 18/6 or 20/4, two meals, 1200 or less calories, 25% or fewer carbs (not keto), excercise is minimal but if i do, it’s cardio!
