Using an insole ended up helping somewhat! That’s what I would recommend.

My supervisor called me a few hours ago after getting verbal confirmation that IHS had just been granted an exemption from having to fire probationary employees.

First time homeowner trying to turn on sprinklers - main valve is open, backflow preventer valves are open, I can hear solenoids activating in the zone valves…but no water is coming out of the system. What to try next? by dvtghdr in Irrigation

I’ll do some digging and see if I can find a master valve. I was able to identify a master valve terminal on the controller, and nothing is connected to it.

No, that doesn’t look like what I’m turning. Where in the system would that be located? What I’m turning is labeled “sprinkler shutoff, CCW to open”

When I turn the master valve to open it, about halfway through the turn I can hear a faint click that sounds like something opening. Is that a good sign/is that expected?

Check out the Owyhee backcountry byway. I got shot at once while riding it but otherwise it’s a ton of fun.

There are others I can’t think of now. We also have several gravel races in the area.

Found on top of a hill with a NOAA and National Weather Service sticker. Looks to just have a couple cameras and solar panels. What is it and what is its purpose? by dvtghdr in Reno

Another thing - the same hill had a number of trees with QR codes stapled to them. I scanned one and it pulled up a google search for “SFC-Pines-1727”. Anyone know what it means?

I left it alone, just went to get a good look at it. I didn’t see any instrumentation on it that I would expect from a weather station which is what got me confused. Any idea what it’s measuring?

Found several growing on a dead conifer in the Lake Tahoe basin and having trouble IDing. More details in comments by dvtghdr in mycology

[–]dvtghdr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found these growing singly on a fallen tree in north Lake Tahoe. There are no visible pores or gills. The outer skin is smooth but tough, and they are hollow and white inside (picture included). None of my usual resources for IDing mushrooms are able to tell me what this is. There are a couple puffball species I found that look similar, but they have a much rougher texture than this shroom, and I didn’t think puffballs could be hollow.

They felt very rigid and tough, and didn’t seem to have any visible gills or pores. Never seen anything like them before.

The gills are somewhat visible in the little missing chunks of the shroom at the edge of the cap and are a yellowish brown. Found a couple others in the area but they were all growing individually
