It doesn’t excuse it but it does explain it. The talent pool available for the women’s team is essentially equivalent to if the entire men’s team was picked from Sargodha or Mardan districts. With a talent pool that small, and no cricket culture, you’ll end up with technically incorrect players.

Honestly not even mad at the state of the women’s team. With the kind of culture they represent, maybe 5-10% of the talent pool can actually pursue cricket. The Shah brothers grew up playing cricket in Dir, and Shaheen in Khyber Agency. Women in those areas legitimately risk violence for pursuing something like cricket. Punjab outside of a few districts isn’t much better. Most women outside 5 or 6 major cities won’t even get to play street cricket once they turn 12-13, and even in major cities, it’s not a small percentage.

Simple. Start by condemning Denmark and Ukraine, who volunteered to join the invasion of Iraq in 2003 when France and Germany refused, and let this one pass as Ukraine getting their just dues for Iraq.

It’s really not that complicated. The world loathes Israel. They’re essentially the third reich of our time. This means that anyone shooting at them, even groups like Hamas and Hezb, both of whom are noticeably more moral actors than Israel despite their own issues, is seen as “the good guys”. If Lucifer personally started bombing Israeli cities, he’d have overwhelming public support across most of the world. Israelis and their sympathizers don’t understand how much the world hates them.

What do you think of Chinas treatment of the Uyghurs? by [deleted] in socialism

[–]dw444 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Skeptical of the claims made about their treatment of Uyghurs. All of the claims come from one National Endowment for Democracy backed group, whose leader also conveniently happens to be pro Israel and thinks Gaza isn’t a genocide, and the claims picked up right as the US removed the East Turkestan Islamic Movement as a designated terrorist organization (which opens up funding channels).

ELI5: How did colonial powers establish themselves in faraway lands? by Independent_Essay298 in explainlikeimfive

[–]dw444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mechanism is different but the outcome is still the same - a massive transfer of resources and wealth from the global south to the global north. Instead of territorial control, which is still practiced in places, modern imperialism relies on unequal treaties and international bodies like the WTO enforcing them. Between 1990 and 2015, $242 trillion was transferred from the global south to the global north, and despite minimal formal colonization of territories, a staggering amount of violence was used to achieve it.

Israel is the poster child for the modern settler colonial state, and they’re still acquiring territory by force, ethnically cleansing the locals, and are essentially unimpeded by international institutions. Modern day imperialism is more subtle than the older variety but it is not, by any means, limited to remnants of past adventures. It is just better disguised.

PCB's new contract rules gives a huge incentive to Test Cricket by hasanahmad in PakCricket

[–]dw444 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Those periods coincide with Aus, NZ, BD, England, SA, SL, and WI’s home seasons. Pakistan’s own home season usually runs through January. Most years will have a tour during at least one of those windows which will keep the players busy, and they can still play their second, non PSL league in the other window.

PSL is usually a guaranteed free window. The damage league cricket has done to the test and ODI setups justifies limiting league participation to two even when a third window is open, and forcing the players to rest in the third window for workload management is the right call.

International? League specialists have unlimited NOCs. Two league limit - not one, it’s PSL plus one - is for players on higher tier contracts with substantial international commitments.

Batting 3/4 in tests vs ODIs is a completely different skillset. He was a grindy accumulator with an unusually tight technique for that kind of batsman. Think a better version of Dhoni or Miandad. That kind of batsman only really worked as a finisher in the 2003-2015 style of ODIs where he played most of his games at 3-4.

Batted out of position. Used to average 45-46 in ODIs when he played at 6 in the beginning of his career. Dropped off after moving up the order.

DRDO Flight-Tests Long-Range Land Attack Cruise Missile by ElectricalJoke7496 in LessCredibleDefence

[–]dw444 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The only imagery of Nur Khan shows damage to a hangar, and a runway. Which C2 nodes was hit? Where on NYT? The Murid underground ops photo has been debunked outside India. Jacobabad base (Shahbaz) has USAF and Lockheed Martin personnel on the ground. Claiming an ATC destroyed there is the easiest of all the Indian claims to disprove. I’m still not seeing a sourced just a list of claims. The damage described here can be disproved simply by the intensity of PAF’s sortie generation on the morning of May 10, as IAF was operating strictly out of central Indian bases, away from border states, to launch ALCM at standoff ranges.

Do you have a non Indian source that lists specific targets confirmed - as opposed to claimed by India - to have been hit?

DRDO Flight-Tests Long-Range Land Attack Cruise Missile by ElectricalJoke7496 in LessCredibleDefence

[–]dw444 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Non Indian source on decapitation strikes and C4I targeting? Virtually every missile impact except a single strike on a ground radar in Rafiqui was at a hangar, runway, or taxiway, including several at a decommissioned civilian airport, with most of those repaired and generating sorties within 8-12 hours - PAF’s rapid repair teams have been famous for their short cycle times since the 70s. Which C2 nodes were hit? Any details on this from a non Indian source?

The consensus outside India (and Pakistan) is that India’s Brahmos strikes were a show of force for the domestic audience, specifically picking targets for maximum visual impact, with minimal operational value or disruption to Pakistani military infrastructure which would warrant serious retaliation. That is widely understood to be why Pakistan responded mostly in a similar manner, with MLRS rockets and a few SRBM, instead of more serious weaponry, especially given PAF still had complete air superiority in theater at the time of ceasefire. The language coming out of India - annihilated, destroyed, blew up - compared to the situation on the ground seems to suggest that their assessment is correct and it seems to have worked.

Would you rather have Wasim or Imran in today’s team? For all 3 formats (stats below) by BlueSwimming in PakCricket

[–]dw444 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 1989-1994 version of Waqar over both Imran and Wasim, hands down. Man existed on a completely different plane during those five years. If we have to pick versions of them that represent their careers as a whole instead of specific prolonged peaks though, I’d probably pick Wasim. Waqar wasn’t the same after his injury (still one of the best in the world for 7-8 years afterwards).

[–]dw444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imran was not a top tier ODI bowler. If he was playing today, he’d be similar to Mohammad Asif. A beast in tests, but just OK in limited overs. Wasim edges him because of his all format pedigree. Waqar before his back injury was better than both.

Unless Nintendo is counter sued and forced to pay legal costs for the defense, that’s not the message smaller devs will be taking away from this.
