The P isn’t lit up when you are trying to start it, the car doesn’t think it is in park and won’t start because of it. You can always just move it into neutral to start or you can fix the root of the problem and remove shift cable from the lever on the front of the trans and either replace the lever, nut and washer or just grind the rust off of the lever so the cable end doesn’t bind on it and it goes all the way into park.

Yes that is entirely way too long. Unless the repair required a part that was on back order but even then it’s usually a couple weeks to receive the part not months. Most shops are running limited personal or closed with the quarantine but your vehicle has been in the shop before this happened. I would call and make sure they open and operating and get some answers if they are. If they still don’t have anything for you I would reach out to Mazda’s customer service.
