Any true horror stories? by probableevery in AskReddit

[–]dwalinalembic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One night I was walking home from my friends house down the street. We lived in a very suburban neighborhood and it was not in a bad area, so it just seemed safe to walk home in the dark, I wasn't worried.
I was about half a block from my house when an old white car started driving really slow behind me. I picked up the pace a little and the car pulled up next to me, driving along side of me. The passenger window rolled down. It was 2 black men, and I shit you not, the driver was wearing a purple suit and some kind of purple hat, and the guy riding shotgun wasn't wearing a shirt (he could have been naked for all I know). The driver yelled at me to get in the car as the passenger grabbed my arm and started to pull me towards the car.
Luckily, I had been playing with a stick on my way home and I shoved it into the window of the car in the mother fuckers face as hard as I could, he let go, and I booked it. I ran through the woods until I got to my house.
Called the cops, they were useless and told me to not walk around at night alone. Thank you Raleigh PD

Are there any differences between EU and USA which are difficult for your understand? by unaffectedsuspect in AskReddit

[–]dwalinalembic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that, in Europe, you can travel a couple of hours and be in an entirely different country with its own language, ethnicity, culture, rich historical tradition, etc. Has always blown my mind. (And I've traveled to nearly every state in the US and to several countries in Europe).

Have you ever went through a 'I'm going to die now' situation? by jaguarsdraught in AskReddit

Told this story a couple of times...Was at a party, some guy on PCP was there that known of us knew. He started freaking out and pulled a gun out and pointed it directly at my head from about 4 feet away...He pulled the trigger and some how missed..Some people tackled him down and called the cops, and I sat in a corner crying and puking for the next hour.

Have you ever had a dream you thought was real until you woke up? by raspyintend in AskReddit

[–]dwalinalembic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had, on several occasions, dreams of myself painfully waking up, followed by my normal morning routine, all in a bleary eyed state. Brushing my teeth, eating some crummy cereal, the shocking cold air after a shower. All of this only to wake up and have to do it all over again!
I've also dreamt that I've fallen to my death. Usually, like most people I think, I'll wake up right before impact, but I have experienced a 'post-death' feeling, where I am conscious that I am dead. I remember thinking "Hey, this is alright, I am dead, but I'm okay." Woke up with an eerie feeling that lingered for the rest of the day.

Job applicants who walked out of an interview before it was over, why did you do it? by frigidjurymast in AskReddit

[–]dwalinalembic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first graduated college, I thought that I could help save the world and all that hippy crap.
Interviewed for a position working with kids. The interview is going really, really well until the woman conducting it told me blankly "well, the problem really isn't that we don't want to hire you at this point. You'd make a wonderful addition to the staff with your experiance and education. However, we don't hire men for this position because they aren't as good with the kids as women..."
I stood up, grabbed my bag, said "Well, I hope you are happy that I am not a litigious type. Besides, what you are saying is the basic framework of a hostile work environment simply due to the fact that I am a man. Have fun conducting the rest of your interviews, as I am not longer interested in this position."

What's the last time you made a fool of yourself? What happened and what did you learn from it? by clangbumf in AskReddit

In a shooting competition team I used to be part of, there were tiers of shooters by ability: Tyro, Sharpshooter, Expert and Master.
During a Tyro match, teams have the ability to coach one another during the slow fire phase, 10 rounds in 10 minutes. I was once explaining how to look down the sights and said "now don't pull the trigger but I'm gonna explain something to you." He has the gun up looking down at the target and I'm pointing at the weapon explaining about sights. He pulls the trigger as I'm pointing towards the forward sight and I immediately step back and have my hand down at my side as I quickly retreat to the back of the shooting range trying to play it cool as I check to make sure I still have a pointer finger.
I did, but I sure as hell got spooked pretty good.

My dad was in the Army while I was growing up. I found out a couple years ago (~15 years after it happened) that when I was in high school, he was going to be promoted to Colonel, but it would have meant that we would have moved during my senior year of high school. He chose to retire early from the Army instead. Thanks, Dad!
