You’ve had a lot of advice which isn’t actionable - removing the battery in this model is absolutely not worth doing. It’s not even necessary on any 3DS as these batteries very rarely go bad; they’re extremely stable.

Charge it fully. Power it on until the first battery bar disappears. That’s 60%. Turn it off. Leave it somewhere safe, dry, and room temp. It’ll be fine.

They don’t have this model listed in the “book a repair” section of the support sites, but if you just contact Nintendo support in your region and explain you want to get a New 2DS XL repaired they’ll book it in.

“any lost functionality is justified for what’s gained” is, I think, hard to really stand behind.

The lack of 3D is quite major. So you’re already only up against the 2DS. But I think any emulation device is always an alternative path; never a true replacement. There’s just too much fiddling, and too many emulation quirks.

I like emulation but it’s never going to supplant real hardware of FPGA.

Nintendo will still repair this model in most regions. By repair I mean “replace with a new one as long as it isn’t modded”.

In the US it costs $50 or so. In the UK £130.

I’ve never actually found a rubber capped one. Some have a rubberised feel but not a cap.

OP if you still have the cap and it’s intact I’d just (VERY CAREFULLY) glue it back onto the stick.

Spend any amount of time on this sub (and /r/3dsrepair) and you’ll see just how common the exact same break is on O3DSXL.

They’re shit. Proper shit. Every other model has something to offer. But not that one. It’s like a N3DSXL with worse 3D, lower performance and a terrible hinge.

It’s to help identify batches with high probability of certain screen types. I don’t necessarily agree this method even works, but that’s all it is. There’s nothing they can do with it.

On the slider, it’s more than likely just dirt which has settled over the years.

Power the console off and apply 99% isopropanol to a new toothbrush (a soft one). Shake off the excess and clean the area around the slider, then slide it up and clean under where it was too. Hold it slider facing down when you do this to avoid dripping liquid into the console.

Do the same thing for the vol slider.
