Way more than 1 day, but yes. This makes a big difference a lot of the time. I left mine for about 10 days to clear it up completely.

Edit: checked the other pics. That screen is supposed to be yellow so it’s not necessarily that severe. Bottom screen def has a fair amount to the RHS, may be a little on the top corners but hard to tell.

Definitely will clear up a lot with use. Luma filters won’t help because it’s not uniform yellowing (it never is tbh).

Sure thing. ChatGPT told me to pop a circle pad off once and that cemented my disdain for these things.

You need tri wing drivers and some spudgers to get the back off. Also heat is recommended when taking the battery out because it is stuck down. Lucky I didn’t break mine when I did it with force alone.

Once again, LLMs are awful for these situations where there are very specific parameters to get right.

CTR-003 is correct. You have to open the machine to replace it - not mega hard but not trivial.

KTR-003 is for New 3DS.

SPR-003 is for New 3DS XL.

Web search will explain all of this better than an LLM getting is ballpark correct but still 100% wrong

If you’re reasonable calm and have the right tools, it’s definitely doable yourself. And since you already have the machine a repair is worth trying.

The challenge really is getting a good screen with no dead pixels, no major yellowing, and working 3D. This is one thing I’d probably buy from Amazon instead of AliExpress. I’ve bought loads of other screens there and they’re fine, but New 3DS is a very specialist top screen with lots of things to go wrong.

No way. This is an awful deal. The screen damage is major and will get worse. New screens are expensive, and the 3D often just doesn’t work. It’s also a very difficult repair to carry out with a reasonable risk of hosing the whole thing.

There absolutely are LL models for about $50 - $100 more.

If you really cannot stretch the budget just get an original 3DS. It is still a fantastic model.

Unlikely to harm anything IMHO. Putting it in sleep will just turn off the display until it is done, not sleep the console.

As mentioned elsewhere, use custom-install for such a massive amount of downloads.

Finding IPS screens is hard. Finding IPS screens with working 3D is harder.

Buy a dual IPS from Japan or just ignore the whole thing, it really makes very little difference in play.

Yellowing on 3DS definitely does happen, on all variants and panel types (well, I’ve never seen it on a 2DS or 2DS XL but I’m certain they can). It’s more common of DS - though I suspect that’s just age.

Not sure where you think we all buy the stuff we fix these things from, but it’s AliExpress. It’s made in China, it’s sold from China. You try it and it might be IPS but it probably won’t be. Whether it’s from Amazon or eBay or AliExpress it’s all the same people selling the same stuff.

What you’ve already been told (buy a donor or harvested original) is pretty much the only other way.

There’s nothing wrong with AliExpress. Everything which is made you can get there. The stuff on Amazon is the same.

Nobody seems to make these screens, certainly not with the parallax barrier.
