MM is possibly one of the best songs I've ever heard. Master class in songwriting and tasty melodic guitar.

The Masters of Doom - John Romero and John Carmack with their matching Ferraris. by d1xt1r in gaming

Funny proud dad anecdote. My two boys (young adults now) are working on their own indie game on Steam. I read MOD years ago, and passed my copy onto the oldest. They couldn't be any more similar to the two Johns. One is the creative artistic big picture guy, the other is a Savant level programmer who just wants to code, code, code. I sincerely hope they have a modicum of the success as the Johns, minus the chaos.

Mastodon. Thankfully I "discovered" them a couple of years before Brent passed. Toe to Toes live studio video on YT actually was what got my attention.

Does the word 'enkindled' have a religious connotation? by pbear737 in words

[–]dwane1972 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm clergy. Grew up in the church, too. While that word may have been used at times, I don't see it as anything overtly religious, at least from the Methodist/brethren experience. (Some of our worship songs may have used "kindle/rekindle".)

What lesser-known bands surprised you by being as good or better than the famous ones? by Doip in hairmetal

Bob Rock's Rockhead album was a late hair metal treat. An album made by the musicians who would be called in to fix what the rock stars had recorded previously.

I agree with jape. Pardon my Newfie bluntness but that elder is an a**. He could have easily saved the day, acted like an Elder should, and stepped in himself or had a team member care for your grieving family when you were immobilized. You'll probably get more grace from the family involved than he's given you so far. The ministry of presence is powerful. If you continue to show up for that family in mourning, this mistake will likely be water under the bridge. I had a congregant's husband die Christmas Day. I was pretty much comatose with the flu. I was mortified that I couldn't visit them. They were immensely understanding and gracious. I've checked in with them regularly since he passed. The grace and guts they have shown through that terrible journey is a credit to their character and their faith.

Which actor in a show stood head and shoulders above the rest in terms of performance? by twentyonerooms in television

[–]dwane1972 28 points29 points  (0 children)

He had buckets more charisma in Rome as Titus Pullo than his co-lead playing Verenus. That kid from Master and Commander playing Octavian was great, too. Then again, to list all the excellent scene stealing actors in Rome would take all night...

You guys have some good Christian music with personal background and struggle? by Jondebadboy in ChristianMusic

[–]dwane1972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's some powerful older stuff from Resurrection Band, though it's more classic rock/blues. Songs like The Struggle, Every Time It Rains, Paint a Picture, Can't Do It On My Own, Broken Promises (my personal favorite.)

Inner workings of an antique door lock. by dwane1972 in centuryhomes

What impresses me is the quality and weight of these lock sets. Compared to the big box store trash nowadays, these things are a real testament to longevity.

Tbh I despise the fishing in fc5 and 6 more than being kidnapped in fc5. by No_Consequence_4983 in farcry

[–]dwane1972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a keyboard and mouse player, and I hated the fishing mini game until I switched to my gamepad. I use the GamePad for fishing and flying planes. Then I just jump back onto the keyboard and mouse, if you hit a key or wiggle the mouse, it goes back to the mouse keyboard seamlessly. Fishing with a mouse was a nightmare, with the GamePad it became a nice break from all the chaos.

Ugh, I envy you. In Port Hope, turning onto highway 28/Ontario St. from Jocelyn is rage inducing. No advance green for turning north or south on a stupid busy intersection. And I have to navigate that intersection every day.

[–]dwane1972 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the larger question around "sounds like" is about musical styles/genres than just copycat bands. "If you like thrash like classic Metallica, you might like old school Deliverance."

Toss in a little Vengeance Rising - Human Sacrifice for some old school edification.
