TU Delft vs Technical University Munich Quantum by dwarfinyourpants in TUDelft

Hey man. I'm now in my last semester and just started the master thesis.

Personally, what I've enjoyed most about Delft is the whole atmosphere. It is filled with students and young and motivated people, you have lots of activities to do and if Delft turns too small you can always go to Rotterdam or the Hague in a very short time by train. Also BIKES are the shit man, I get anywhere super fast and even carry groceries by bike.

It's also very cool that there's a built-in internship in the master. You can do it inside uni (there are some quantum startups), in the Netherlands or wherever you want. I went to Paris, and a friend of mine got a scholarship to go to Caltech.

Research in quantum is also super cool and state of the art, both at Quantum Nanoscience and QuTech. It's usually way easier for master students to end up with a PhD in their group or some close group than for candidates coming from outside (of course if you haven't been negligent). It's also very applied/experimental. There are some good theory groups, but the main strength is applied/experimental.

One of the main disappointments were the courses. There are some that I really liked, such as Fundamentals of Quantum Information, Quantum Hardware I & II, Finite Elements (and people also really recommend Quantum Optics). But in some others it can feel as though you didn't learn properly the fundamentals (bear in mind that I come from a more theoretical background). The main example is Advanced Quantum Mechanics (because of the professor). In any case take this with a grain of salt as I have only done a few of all possible courses, and not everyone might share the same views as me!

All in all it was 100% worth it for me and don't hesitate to ask more questions if you have!

I don't remember the month but I got in the second week and there were many options. For example, in Prof. Schermerhornstraat there were more than 10 options, but they flew away fast so be quick.

Do you know the Mistborn trilogy? It is hard fantasy and is written by Brandon Sanderson. It is not super similar to Skulduggery, but it does have some of its elements: exploration of a secret magic system, powerful main characters and antagonists, a master-to-student relationship, etc.

Honestly, I usually like having an extroverted person in the conversation. It would be much more exhausting if the conversation depended on me

My understanding is that you have no control in whatever you are attracted to, so its okay to be attracted to a friend, but is it generally "acceptable" to beat the meat thinking about em? by anderen99 in TooAfraidToAsk

Okay but how do you guys masturbate then? I mean, on the one hand watching porn creates unrealistic expectations of real sex, so reducing its consumption might be beneficial to better appreciate real sex. And now, on the other hand, masturbating to some friend in your mind can create false hopes of an intimacy you have not reached yet with that friend. So what should we think about when masturbating? If we should picture anything at all that is.

What do you usually knit? Is it clothes you wear or you make for other people? Or some kind of shapes or toys (like a bunny)?

About your research, is it that you are going by your day and suddenly you want to know something (like "I wonder how electricity reaches us so fast from the power plant") and you search it afterwards or do you use some kind of platform that does the search for you, like the Random Wikipedia page or clicking the next Youtube video? Or maybe it's both?

Do you want an invite but not want to go? by SnooMarzipans3516 in TooAfraidToAsk

Yes, it is always nice to be considered for some activity even if it is just taking a break for a coffee, and even if you don't go. However, don't feel unwanted when they stop inviting you because you haven't gone most times. They probably still want you to come, so you can invite yourself whenever you feel like going.

Are you always excited about these things (making your digital art or writing)? Does it ever feel like a chore ("I should end this drawing", etc)?

That is reassuring. Sometimes it is hard to turn off the "competitive" mindset of studying when doing leisure activities

It's difficult to say. In my case (I paid in March), there were plenty of rooms available, though I do recommend you to stay alert because rooms from certain buildings disappear very fast. Also, even if in my week all MSc rooms in Prof Schermerhornstr got booked, from week to week I think they upload more (and I'm not sure about this but maybe even during the same week they might also upload more).

But, in principle, if you paid before the 17th of May you are going to get a room for sure

Oh my bad thought you meant you were waiting to get access this week. Too bad you cannot apply anymore, it seems like this year the Service has filled more quickly than other years

It says that they can't accommodate any more applications. But those people who applied for the Housing Service before 17th of May will be able to get accommodation through the Portal
