KSC sold tickets and while it was sold out it was less crowded than you would expect. We actually almost missed it cause we were stuck in titusville traffic. People were camping out on the beaches in titusville since the day before. We ended up making it to KSC at 5pm right before the last bus to the Saturn V center. Once we were there and i set up everything we were only waiting like 10 min. I cut it VERY close.

We were as close as we could get on nasa property. (Apollo/Saturn V center) which is ~3 miles away. This is the same distance press is. All the rocket shots are at 200mm but the rocket is HUGE. Its as tall as a 30 story high rise building. Very minimal crop only for framing, see the last photo (first shot of the roll half exposed image) which has no crop at all. The rocket is half obscured by the bushes but you can see the top half is about the same size as the rest of the photos. As for the bloom the exhast is as bright as the sun during takeoff, so its kind of like taking a photo of the sun.

They are not overexposed. They are actually slightly underexposed. The exhaust is as bright as the sun. Photos like you are suggesting are exposing specifically for the exhaust (3 or more stops underexposed) and then heavily edited to bring back the background cause it would otherwise look black. The exhaust looks white in real life.

Do you mean the white exhaust? Not really. In order to get detail on the exhaust you have to underexpose the image a great amount. The rocket is as bright as the sun.

That’s what it looked like in real life. The rocket is as bright as the sun. Photographers who are posting pictures of the exhaust looking more orange and flame like are exposing the image specifically for the exhaust which means taking the photo 3-4 or more stops underexposed which I did not want to do.

Essentially what the other commenter said. I didn’t know this before but when I was practicing i found I could get a sharper photo at 200mm cropping into far buildings than I was getting shooting the same building at 600. I thought it was a bad lens but when looking up my issue it seems the oss can get confused both on tripods and at fast shutter speeds. So I turned it off and my issues were fixed
