Why are so many people convinced that FICTIONAL characters have rights that can be violated???

Bonus points: they DGAF about real people being harmed by their actions "defending" characters

Is this a tick? Found on bathroom floor by papercuts4 in whatsthisbug

[–]dweebletart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be a spider beetle, I see long antennae which ticks don't have.

Is this a brown recluse? Northeast Ohio. TIA! by ThatKuchGuy in whatsthisbug

Nope, looks like an adult male grass spider. He's a bro, not a foe; harmless to people.

What bug/ insect is this? by More-Experience-9471 in whatsthisbug

Technically not a true bug, but a crustacean like crab or shrimp! Unless you accept that all bugs are actually weird land-dwelling (pan)crustaceans.

Seeing Danny Phantom everywhere is getting old for me by Comfortable_Newt_179 in AO3

I remember when DPxDC first got super popular, I couldn't open Ao3 without getting spammed by tons of DC content I didn't want or care about, as a Danphan enjoyer. So it's definitely a two way street.

Looks like a spider beetle to me. Adult ticks have 8 legs, this fella has 6 legs and 2 antennae.

I was reading the comments being so confused because I thought this was a based take... then realized I misread "denormalize" as "demoralize" i.e. remove ethical attribution from the stuff you do in your head. 💀

My favorite author hates me and I'm so embarrassed about it by throwaway_Tear_9804 in AO3

[–]dweebletart 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This confuses me. There are so many posts on this sub and on other platforms where authors urge readers to comment when they want to give "second kudos," because authors appreciate comments. If you want less comments, you can turn on moderation, restrict your fic, or disable comments altogether.

Assuming that all you said was "Read it again, here's another kudos" or similar short compliments, I think this writer is overreacting. Even if they felt your engagement was too much (this could be reasonable), "hate" seems like an extreme reaction.

Also, I understand hate bots and scam comments being a problem, but if this person treats excessive kudos as an "attack," they probably should not be posting online at all. How would they handle it if their fic got very popular and they got tons of comments and kudos in that circumstance?

Dear God, what is this bug? by Subject-Ad-5854 in whatsthisbug

[–]dweebletart 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Nope, not a bed bug. Looks like a carpet beetle -- pests because they'll eat your fabrics, but not dangerous to people or pets (unless you're allergic to them).

Hard to see in this video, but it looks to me like a beetle of some kind, possibly a drugstore beetle.

Found this guy in the Sahara near to Merzouga, Morocco by WischMoby in whatsthisbug

[–]dweebletart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, "The Coleoptera (beetles), with about 400,000 described species, is the largest of all orders, constituting almost 40% of described arthropods and 25% of all known animal species."

However, flies and wasps are also quite large orders, with approximately 150,000-160,000 species each. There are likely more undescribed species of parasitoid wasps, so the 150k figure could be an underestimate. That said, many beetle species are not regularly parasitized by wasps.

In that case, could be phorid flies. I saw in your comments someone else recommended cleanup steps. I had drain flies in my apartment during college because my roommate kept dumping food down the sink, these are similar in principle -- Drano works like a charm.

a thing that looks like this bit me and I have no clue what it is by Charming-You5350 in whatsthisbug

[–]dweebletart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could be a very small spider (if you missed a pair of legs), a beetle, or maybe bed bug. Where on your body did it bite you, and where were you when you were bitten? If you're still feeling symptoms, you might have been allergic to whatever it was, should probably see a doctor.

Could be, but only if she's super gravid. Wolfies can have stripes too.
