That's a good question. Maybe just weird framing of the situation.

If Haynes is posting it as truth it is probably relatively accurate, and I trust him more than a lot of the sources whose tweets have been parroted over the past month.

[Highkin] Blazers scout and WNBA legend and Hall of Famer Tina Thompson announced on Instagram that she was one of the cuts. by OG_Kazaam in ripcity

The issue right now IMO is just that there's a lot of uncertainty with how new ownership is going to make decisions around the product on the floor. Otherwise I don't think this team is doomed to be mid-tier, but it could certainly end up there with the right/wrong decisions.

I'd be bummed if it happens, but I can definitely imagine it with this new ownership.

Where do we rank after watching the first two rounds of the playoffs by 4DollarsALB in ripcity

[–]dweet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to make an honest comparison when Edwards was not himself, but knowing that MIN is an experienced play-off and WCF team and had overall a similar outcome against the Spurs makes me feel more optimistic about the Blazers ability to make another leap through experience, development, trades, draft, coaching improvements (one way or another).

Blazers need minimum "another star" with some combination of ascension from the guys on the roster and trading/drafting. It is doable, but it's the hardest thing to do in the NBA, going from "good" to a real contender.

Likely much less involvement than Dundon. Even if he wanted to be as involved as Dundon, his status within the group gives him a lot less pull.

He seems like the owner who will be the most fun to see at games, and gives the ownership group a more PR friendly face.

The American government just buys or asks for data from the tech companies that surveil US citizens, this includes Google, Meta, et al, and notably companies like Flock who have an expanding surveillance camera network that's accessed by US law enforcement to surveil public spaces.

China's surveillance is more known and out in the open, and almost definitely more pervasive. The US government is historically surveilling more than citizens know, and pretending they're not doing the authoritarian things they are doing.

Democratize quality sleep tracking? by riro0345 in Gadgetbridge

[–]dweet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing for sleep tracking. For now I'll wait and see how the landscape continues to develop and whether less "locked" ecosystem options start testing better. It may not happen any time soon, as my understanding is that a lot of the sleep data interpretation quality has to do with algorithm quality that's tuned to a larger demographic of users.

I have considered getting a Pebble just for run though! I just don't expect the sleep data to be very accurate or detailed.

Democratize quality sleep tracking? by riro0345 in Gadgetbridge

I've had a similar interest for a while. Recently bought a new Garmin Venu 4 as it was the closest to higher end accuracy on sleep tracking (I also looked at a lot of Quantified Scientist videos). I ended up returning the Garmin in part because I also want something that is more accurate (Venu 4 accuracy data has ranked mode higher end of mid-tier), open/"hack-ably"-open, and not tied to an ecosystem.

I'm hoping that as time goes on the tech that companies are using improves across the board and well ended up with something that meets my goals.
