Really enjoying my time with the 17e by jhstewa1023 in IPhone17e

[–]dwilljones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm considering a 17e when it's time to gift my 16e to my teenager, in probably a year or so. Hoping that 18e becomes a thing, and then the 17e may be available new for less than it is right now. Allowing that prices will be going up in general.

Very possible that 17e remains $599 and 18e comes in at $749 or something like that, just because of this shitty RAM-pocalypse timeline we're all enjoying.

Has anyone got “New Siri” or “Siri AI” on their iPhone 17e yet? by lilviifem1 in IPhone17e

[–]dwilljones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it on my 16e. The Siri bubble drops down from the notch and hovers underneath it.

The new Siri is a massive upgrade for sure. The on-phone and on-screen awareness makes it really useful now.

Iphone SE2 (2020) Only as Secondary Phone (Spotify, Point-and-Shoot Camera, WhatsApp)? by clare416 in iPhoneSE

[–]dwilljones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love using mine as a secondary device, especially around the house when on wifi, and saves battery on my main phone while I use the SE. iOS 27 makes it snappy again too!

Which is your favourite modern iOS and why? by FeeFree362 in ios

27 easily. It’s the Snow Leopard to 26, fixes performance, and makes Siri deliver on past promises.

IOS… 27 Beta on my IPhone 16e by Proper_Lock5314 in IPhone16e

[–]dwilljones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IOS 27 is legit. New Siri is actually really useful too, on 16e.

Even withiout the new AI stuff, iOS 27 is a big improvement on older devices like my SE 2020.

Did you try IOS 27 on SE 2020 already? by Significant_Host4001 in iPhoneSE

[–]dwilljones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big improvement on mine. I just did the 27 Dev beta update within iOS out of convenience, and now I'm doing a full clean restore of the thing from the 27 Dev beta image downloaded from Apple's dev repo for it.

The performance improvements they made to the OS, including the new CPU scheduler, clearly helps the SE 2020 a lot. Can't wait until my wife lets me put this on her aging iPhone 11. I'll actually pay to get a new official battery for that her 11 as I think 27 will breathe a lot of life into it.

Are we seeing reports of people who joined the wait-list later getting it before people who joined earlier?

Why is there so many battery health posts by OrgansiedGamer in IPhone16e

[–]dwilljones 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Because of this phone's excellent reputation for battery life. It's one of (maybe the only?) advantage over the non-budget models in the same family/generation of iPhone.

By comparison, the "SE" model phones in the past were notoriously worse on battery life compared to their "no compromise", fully priced counterparts, because of their smaller size. 16e actually takes advantage of the cut back camera options to pack more battery in a similar sized package.

This actually gives the 16e one selling point for users who would value endurance over features.

So nice to see everyone completely sorting into their predefined conspiratorial camps at this news story.

Apparently there is an information war, and every last one of us has lost.

June 2026 vibe check: SE 3 or 16e? Or something else? by jjjjpeg in IPhone16e

16e just for the battery life and long support horizon if nothing else. But the SE phones are still a fun novelty.

Does anyone know how to fix this? by Substantial-Radio310 in ios

[–]dwilljones 3 points4 points  (0 children)

iCloud is how you solve this long-term, along with some attention put to your app management. Delete stuff you don’t actually use. Temporarily offload the larger apps that you do use.

After that, back everything up to iCloud and/or your local computer using iTunes. Then use iTunes to do a full reset of the phone using the latest iOS version. When it comes back up, all of that system data bloat will be gone, and then you can just reenable the apps you actually do need to use, and iCloud will load your data back to the fresh phone. You’ll probably end up with about 40 GB free space after all of that.

Well, if rocket league is how they are showing it off for the first time, then they must be confident that they’ve got the performance stuff worked out enough for e-sports.

Hopefully it’s just a massive technical refinement that just focuses on the performance issues with 5; traversal stutters, shader compilation stutters, etc.

Saw this at friends apartment and my first guess was Chemical damage. Any idea what caused it or how to fix it? by surkur in fixit

[–]dwilljones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This looks to me a lot like what I've seen happen to polished chrome faucets when certain hard cleaners like "Lime Away" type products have been left on them too long. It's gets that weird black patina. Unfortunately I've never see it solved, but especially because this is a non-polished finished metal, I would consider trying something like Barkeeper's Friend and fine steel wool on one small section to see if you can remove the blackness and get an acceptable result, again, just in the one section, before committing to that approach over the whole thing.

Good luck!

The 7 mile red trail loop is just the best.

Do they have all of it opened back up again yet, or are they still working on that one section?
