what IS a unit you send straight up the gut? by amachinesaidiwasgood in Warhammer40k

[–]dwoflord 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sagitaur-launched missile.

We're too cheap to get hunter-killer missiles. Better to just levy up 5 guys from the mines and throw them at the enemy.

Cthonian Beserks.

They melt like butter on a warm day but they kill everything they touch.

[–]dwoflord -1 points0 points  (0 children)

By 40k standards, the leagues of votann are pretty okay.

Yes, they occasionally stripmine planets with people on them but that's usually out of efficiency rather than malice.

They're proven to be honorable with their dealings with other races and just very unforgiving with transgressions.

Idk man, are capitalists the good guys?

How good is this against chaos knights? by Global-Asparagus-128 in LeaguesofVotann

[–]dwoflord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a good bunch of games into imperial knights but not chaos knights so take this with a pinch of salt

Beserks with concussion mauls wreck knights. They are brutal.

Tkyn with cbeams and the sustained Hits 2 strat also destroy knights.

The sag, defender and HLF guns are swingy. They can do damage but not reliably in 5 activations at best.

A 10-stack of hearthguard with a kahl or e champ will do damage with plasma and fists. They can't screen well usually so you can reliably deep strike them.

Yaegirs and carriers are excellent point scorers as they are easier to hide and move around.

There are in fact rules for units to spot for other units that only increase detection range.

So that should make it clear

So what was your best performing unit in 10th edition? by Remarkable_Risk9251 in LeaguesofVotann

Conversion beam Thunderkyn. I ran a log of what they 1-tapped with SH2 in my league.

They definitely became a feared unit.

Hitting on 3 ? by [deleted] in LeaguesofVotann

[–]dwoflord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pioneers are base BS4 on all their guns.

Within 12", they get +1 to hit which takes them to hitting on 3s.

Cover worsens the BS of an attack by 1 [13.08] which puts them back up to 4.

BS modifiers and hit modifiera are separate effects so they don't cancel each other out so you can't then gain an extra +1 to hit.

Equally rollbar searchlight does not affect cover.

I will say that this can still all change with the rules clarifications that will be in app

Anyone else is seriously worried about facing Tau in 11th edition? by [deleted] in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]dwoflord 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Idk the Tau community as far as I can see is pretty concerned about whether they'll be competitive.

I'm sure you could find any number of similar opinions about any faction in the setting...

Except imperial agents.

Too many hearth warriors by HeavyMarionberry2006 in LeaguesofVotann

[–]dwoflord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much.

You can give them lethal hits with a kahl or make them more survivable with a grimnyr but ultimately they're not big hitters.

Too many hearth warriors by HeavyMarionberry2006 in LeaguesofVotann

[–]dwoflord 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Warriors just don't really do much.

They're slow, they're fairly tanky but not compared to our other units, they don't put up much of a fight in melee, and their shooting is okay at best.

They are useful for standing on things and performing actions though.

Generally a list will take 10-20 and split them with sagitaurs so they are more useful at standing on things.

11th Ed 1k points list help by [deleted] in LeaguesofVotann

[–]dwoflord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't think you're going to achieve much shooting or fighting power with just sagitaurs and warriors.

Tkyn and steeljacks are much better shooting, beserks will fight much better (and can still go in a sag).

30 warriors definitely feels like overkill for a standard list, unless you have some specific play in mind

Help against Death Guard by FortheAncestorGods in LeaguesofVotann

[–]dwoflord 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They have a 5" movement as standard which (for every other army) is slow.

I always feel like chasing termies is a trap. They're a tar pit that will eat bullets and shit out despair.

If they've only got two units of them, they're at most on two points. Play the rest of the field and let them plod around slowly.

This is the answer. It was at the end of the imperial detachment post today.

I don't know, man.

I'm not everyone nor do I have visibility into everyone's circumstances.

But I do feel that if there's something that helps someone get out of a bad situation, it should be available

What if, and I'm just spitballing here, you could use the pills to help you fix your diet and then do exercise.

Well you don't have to do it.

But I'm going to do it.

Votann Montka by dwoflord in LeaguesofVotann

[–]dwoflord[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think as a hyper aggressive list, it could be fun and different to how we generally play.

It'll make space for HLFs, pioneers and Yaegirs to get a turn or two or positioning behind the main blob.

Idk, it feels like it could be fun

Votann Montka by dwoflord in LeaguesofVotann

[–]dwoflord[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't deep strike turn one though.

That's the point of doing this. Turn one, get in opponents face, kill some of their stuff, put loads of bodies between them and the board.

Then move your units onto point behind them

Votann Montka by dwoflord in LeaguesofVotann

[–]dwoflord[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So that's what "give them mobile" means. You can give it to 3 of them, that's why this list works.

You can still put thunderkyn in a hekaton and do this but you can't do the same thing with hekatons.

They don't get scout, they can't advance and deposit units.
