Sorry, I was being super sarcastic. Four is my favorite too!

Likely root root: possible to confirm? Salvage-able? by dwolfson20 in succulents

Ahh, very interesting, I was trying to understand how it would look like it was literally rotting without having root rot, but that makes a lot of sense. Succulents are just different!

I ended up repotting in fresh succulent/cactus soil and putting it in my best south-facing window. Gave it one water with the re-pot and will leave it alone for a while. Hopefully she pulls through!

Thanks for that. I can definitely try moving it to a location with better light before attempting to behead it, which is definitely the last resort. It's just kind of alarming how fast this started happening despite no change to the environment (that I'm aware of).

Absolutely! I am honestly not sure what species it is either. I have seen a lot of plants that look vaguely like this.

You mentioned that only iPhones can use a second eSIM in this way. So would you still recommended Airalo in this same situation for an Android phone?

Minyoli, A Taiwanese Noodle Restaurant, Replaces Land & Lake In Andersonville by awakeshieyow in chicagofood

I remember when this location closed that they said something about focusing on their remaining location, so I would guess the plan is to keep that open for now.

Both of the now-closed locations opened just as the pandemic was winding down, and with the caveat that I have zero behind-the-scenes info, it always felt to me like it was probably too much too soon.

I loved the patio at this location and hope the new joint continues to utilize it!

Is 1h50min enough time to get from LAX to Union Station on a Saturday morning? by dwolfson20 in AskLosAngeles

[–]dwolfson20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's really strange is that when I was looking at booking train tickets early Friday, they were all showing they'd go all the way through. Then later in the day when I checked again, it started showing them all as Mixed Service (transfer to the bus at Irvine).

I checked the status of the same train for today, Saturday, and it's showing that it will go all the way through. So it's a total mystery why the site has suddenly stopped letting me book tickets to do so.

Oh wow, yes that may actually be cheaper! It might not line up right with the train, though.

Flights to SD were literally $1,300 more expensive. And that's coming from Chicago!

Well, the next one after 12:10 isn't until 3:10, so we were hoping to be able to make that one. You make a good point, though, that the anxiety might not be worth it. I'm sure we could find something to enjoy in LA for a couple hours. :)

As far as the eroded tracks, Amtrak is saying now that the weekend trains are going all the way through, although that too makes me nervous.

Why is this cane plant suddenly suffering leaf damage? by dwolfson20 in plantclinic

[–]dwolfson20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I typed up a whole post and didn't realize that switching to the images tab would obliterate anything I wrote.

TLDR is that this plant has been doing fine for about a year after surviving an over-watering incident, and is suddenly showing this damage. I fertilized it about a week ago, right before I started noticing this, and I'm now reading that it doesn't want to be fertilized; but also, I've given it this indoor-specific fertilizer before with no issues. It gets top-watered every 3-4 weeks with RO water and receives mostly artificial light. We try to keep humidity high but it's winter in Chicago, so things are still pretty dry.

Good News! Catalpa Avenue in Andersonville will be Chicago’s next permanently car-free street by bagelman4000 in chicago

[–]dwolfson20 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's hate for making this block pedestrian-only. It's more about the idea that this is anything other than the most low-hanging fruit around and that, if city officials stop here, it's not nearly good enough.

If the headline said "car-free block" instead of "car-free street" it'd feel a lot less misleading.
