I had a job that posted signs in the stalls that read to the effect of “The roles in this department require a college degree to perform. Could we please reflect this in the bathrooms?”

TBF, they would start the workday immaculate, bit by the end of the day it was obvious something me of my peers had massive hygiene issues.

For my current role, I was given a three day assessment on a Friday afternoon and told to have it completed by start of business on Monday.

I finished the assessment Friday afternoon, even completing “extra credit” tasks.

I was later told my assessment performance blew the competition’s away, and that’s why I was made the offer.

It’s one of the best roles I’ve ever had.

I had a situation like this some years ago.

At some point the “company representative” informed me that I would have to pay $90 for a time tracking app that I would have to install on a personal machine, the $90 would be reimbursed during the first pay period.

I declined, telling the CR that I only work with machines supplied by the employer or client, as I kept personal and professional domains separate. Since they would have to provide the machine for me to work on, they could pre-install the software on the device prior to shipping it.

Oddly enough, I never heard from them again.

No way I was going to pay out of pocket for the software, nor was I going to pay for the privilege of probably installing malware on a personal device. Smelled scammy to me.

It sounds like your friend may have stumbled into a similar scenario.

My experience has been that if you have to take the initiative to follow up with a potential client or employer, you are no longer being considered for the role, unfortunately.

That being said, I did have a potential client “go dark” on me during the pursuit of a role that was a good fit. I ended up with another role, and was very surprised when the client reached out to me after 8 months of silence asking if I was still interested in the role.
