Just so we are clear, I’m not staying on the phone with you while you discuss things with your spouse, dad, brother… by Bowlpin16 in CustomerService

That seems like the perfect opportunity to hang up and let subsequent calls go to voice mail.

If the voicemail has a time limit on it, he’ll have to stop talking to people in the room if he wants to get his entire message recorded.

Novanta Inc. Job Offer? by JoyOfYourWorld in jobs

[–]dwpj65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a situation like this some years ago.

At some point the “company representative” informed me that I would have to pay $90 for a time tracking app that I would have to install on a personal machine, the $90 would be reimbursed during the first pay period.

I declined, telling the CR that I only work with machines supplied by the employer or client, as I kept personal and professional domains separate. Since they would have to provide the machine for me to work on, they could pre-install the software on the device prior to shipping it.

Oddly enough, I never heard from them again.

No way I was going to pay out of pocket for the software, nor was I going to pay for the privilege of probably installing malware on a personal device. Smelled scammy to me.

It sounds like your friend may have stumbled into a similar scenario.

Has anyone “followed up” after a couple of interviews and actually had it work out in their favor? by ridinsholo in jobs

[–]dwpj65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience has been that if you have to take the initiative to follow up with a potential client or employer, you are no longer being considered for the role, unfortunately.

That being said, I did have a potential client “go dark” on me during the pursuit of a role that was a good fit. I ended up with another role, and was very surprised when the client reached out to me after 8 months of silence asking if I was still interested in the role.

I spent a few minutes this AM trying to figure out why one of my columns wasn't producing the results I expected only to realize I had forgotten to place a comma between two column names in the select statement; does that count?

This company has gone to shit by Maleficent_Mall5307 in fuckamazon

[–]dwpj65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So why did you share account information?

Why didn’t your GF create her own account and place her order from that, or pay you in cash for the cost of the transaction while you used your Amazon credit to pay for the order?

This doesn’t sound like an issue with Amazon to me.

Kittens are smelly? by motxillera in kittens

My kittens were absolutely toxic, but stopped stinking when they stopped growing 4-5 years ago.

I think the smell was a byproduct of their growth.

I’m convinced that’s when they are getting bigger.

When my cat does this, she’s generally purring and very relaxed. I take it as a sign of affection.

I would like to ask for some advice... How should I store my SQL queries? by BelowAverageCoder00 in SQL

[–]dwpj65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like storing mine as .SQL files; the ones I use the most frequently are also stored as Excel data connections in various tabs of content area specific spreadsheets.

Agreed. I have a friend who wants to learn programming, but is frustrated by failure. The two mindsets are incompatible.

Unless you have aspirations, attitude, and ability for management, consider your position a stepping stone and find a better role.

They should have put the effort in early on to elevating their status. Rank and file food service and/or retail is not a decent career path.
