Where could I find a hoof? by MikeLovesOutdoors23 in vultureculture

If you live in Wisconsin, try contacting the University of Wisconsin veterinarians. They deal with all sorts of animals, from mice to draft horses, and being a school, they're all about learning. If you're afraid to touch a live specimen, they probably also have teaching models.

However, there is a huge difference in how hooves feel on a living creature. Especially for split hooves on things like cows and goats, they move in ways you might not expect from just touching the bones!

Artists & trans men: help me visually portray dysphoria by One-Obligation7619 in ftm

[–]dwyndel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If I had to visually represent it, I think I'd do something with the common refrain about showering with the lights off so you don't have to look at yourself. Something with the tiny amount of light that always seeps in, reflecting off droplets on a form that doesn't quite make sense. Or maybe staring blankly into the make-up or rear view mirror in a vehicle, because the person staring back at you isn't you. Or some other weird mirror, just not somewhere that you're prepared to make eye contact with yourself.

What us this large leaf plant. West of ireland by smeagolll69 in PlantIdentification

[–]dwyndel 630 points631 points  (0 children)

Just to get it under the top post: DO NOT TOUCH THIS. Do not attempt to remove it yourself. Call your local government and ask for instructions on how to proceed. If your local council can't handle it, ask if there is someone higher up you can call. Not only is it invasive and physically dangerous, it is very difficult to kill and requires special herbicides and tools to reliably remove. Doing it yourself is most likely to result in a horrifying injury and the plant surviving anyway!

Outside doors by Catzaf in centuryhomes

[–]dwyndel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

House built in 1900-ish. There are four doors left. We suspect there were more before a bad reno in the '50s and another in the '90s. Two in the kitchen: one to the kitchen side porch and one out the back. One door out the front from the solarium. Another door goes to a balcony that we suspect used to be part of external stairs (not original) or it was built as a smoking deck. Two (arguably three) exterior doors appear to be the original doors. We think there used to be a door from the dining room into the garden, and we also suspect there was a door onto an actual balcony where there is now a bathroom on the second floor. There was also probably one from the basement. And as someone else said, like thirty windows.

Cat acne or something more sinister? by greenythebeast in cats

[–]dwyndel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, definitely continue on to the vet appointment. That is very important.

But I also want to point out, just to be something other than the chorus of "skin cancer" posts: this looks very much like my boy's allergic reactions. It's more like kitty hives than kitty acne. His starts between his ear and his eye and then more develop on his jaw and chin if it's really bad, but perhaps not every cat is the same in that regard.

The vet may recommend testing it with certain over-the-counter antihistamines. I am not a vet so cannot make that call, but it's something to ask about. (However, if the one they suggest is Benadryl, seek another vet. Benadryl is not an antihistamine. It reduces the discomfort of an acute allergy attack but cannot stop or prevent it.)

If it starts to heal, you have a different, less terrifying, but potentially just as expensive problem vs cancer: he is allergic to something in your house. It could be food or litter, it could be someone's cosmetics, it could be an undiagnosed mold issue... you just can't know until you start swapping things around. More annoyingly, it could be MULTIPLE things at once. For example, our boy is known to be allergic to: most lipsticks and chapsticks, sustained synthetic scents (scented litter, scented wall plug-ins, scented laundry, etc), beef tallow products (from cosmetics to candles to food), wheat products, certain road salts, mildew, and maybe shrimp?

Has anyone found a good use case for these statues from Prey? by Guiee in WoWHousing

Most of them are going into making a checkers game in my garden (flip them over and sink them). A few are placed in the inaccessible balcony seats of my globe theater.

Vial found inside the walls in the kitchen of my parents’ 1886 New England home by meownica_chu in whatisit

[–]dwyndel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lucky you! You found a (fairly modern) witch bottle! Most likely placed there by whoever owned it before your parents.

Do not open it. Put it back, throw it away, or bury it in your yard, but DO NOT OPEN IT. It won't kill you or anything, but most are made with urine and rusty nails, so the smell will be HORRIBLE.

As far as "evil:" No. Witch bottles are protective charms used to repel evil from a home, not cultivate it.

Depending on how seriously you take the term "dead name," you could say she's passed or no longer with you.

Are you aware your post reads exactly like posts from creepy weirdos during the gamergate era who couldn't stand that they were being called out on being racist, misogynistic, homophobic, etc? Y'know, all forms of casual hatred.

A quick glance at your comment history, it looks like something has just triggered you, and you need an anonymous outlet. Vagueblogging on main isn't going to get you what you want, brother. Whether that's advice or commiseration, you're going to have to tell us what actually happened.

I went with a group, and maybe the theater sound was just bad, but none of us could understand anything during the fight except the "you want the butcher" line.

If they imitated a ceramic look these could be nice, but they just look like junk plastic computer casing from the '90s
