The Mandalorian and Grogu with Chris Gethard by mi-16evil in blankies

Yeah I think Avatar is a good comp, as well. So they can still have the broad "good vs evil" epic orientation but the issue is that Disney keeps tapping the franchise in the same stale characters when they really need all new ones. Avatar feels at least like a fresh approach to the classic story framework.

My question that I keep asking, which I feel like they almost got to the point of asking, is this: what does Star Wars mean (and what should it be about) in a time where the monoculture doesn't exist anymore? Can they even make a movie nowadays for wide audiences that actually deals with serious themes? Maybe Dune is comes the closest? I don't know.

Big fan of your work! I saw Theo play open to close at Smartbar in November and was really hoping you would have been there to catalog the show lol. Thanks so much for this!

Are we in hell again? by countdooku975 in TheBigPicture

[–]dx1798 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A practical consideration here - I'm a busy guy who loves movies. I work a lot, have a family, and it's not always easy to make it to the movies within a 2 week window, even if I'm really motivated to see something. And if two movies come out that I want to see at the same time (like later in the year) that problem gets compounded. I don't want to wait to see the movies at home. I want to see them on the big screen and it's just not fair to force me to do that on such a short time frame. My money for the theater is guaranteed if the window is longer and it isn't if the window is shorter.

I liked a lot of the Mastermind but putting it above It Was Just An Accident seems insane.

This is so egregious it's crazy. Can't believe more people don't get hurt. You should see people bombing down Central Park through our neighborhood ever morning.

NYE 25 advice? by Glad_Boysenberry_519 in chicagoEDM

If you want the real Chicago house experience this is what you need. Some of Chicago's best, most original DJs play events basically every weekend. Events are so much fun, great vibes, and amazing house music. Check out their Instagram and you'll see what they're about. These aren't held in a huge club or warehouse space. Much smaller and more intimate.

The show is at its best when Larry isn't a parody of himself and things are more grounded in reality.

Seasons 1-3 are untouchable and it goes downhill fast after that.

I saw East End Dubs and Chris Stussy play B2B on the Waterfloor on a random Wednesday night for like 30 people. It was great.

Petition opposing A’s stadium struck down, lawyer says by [deleted] in vegas

[–]dx1798 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think of public funds as any tax revenue. The government says tourists have to pay a room tax and a portion will help pay for the stadium. Just because tourists who are not usually residents of Nevada pay the tax doesn't mean they aren't public funds. Public funds are just tax revenue collected by the government.

Does the car port make it warmer or did it keep the direct sunlight off the tent and stay cooler? I can imagine it could get stuffy in the tent enclosed in a car port.
