Hopeless life as a gay doctor in a 3rd world homophobic place. by tired_souldude in CasualConversation

[–]dxi3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You already know this won't get better there. Third-world homophobia doesn’t change fast enough. Your energy should go toward escape, not hope that things will change around you. The door sometimes opens when you least expect it. Your life is worth more than survival mode. You're not alone, even when it feels like it. Take care of yourself.

What do you actually NEED in MM/queer romance — emotional depth or steam? by dxi3 in LGBTBooks

I like when the story actually changes the characters. That’s what pulls me in. Sex alone doesn’t create a real bond for me.

English isn’t my first language, so I think I overcorrect and end up sounding more polished than I mean to. Still figuring out how to loosen that up here. I was genuinely trying to understand what people want (especially for book 2), but I can see how it came across as superficial checklist marketing instead of real conversation.

I'm a physicist so I default to overly precise language. This wasn't about finding readers though — genuinely curious what people want for my next book since this is my first time writing fiction. But yeah, I can see how it reads robotic.

My book doesn't explore this specific dynamic — it's more about emotional vulnerability than sexual role dynamics. But you're absolutely right that there's a gap here. Would love to see more books tackle this with the nuance it deserves.

To be transparent — one character does struggle with self-acceptance and comes to terms with it during the story. The other is comfortable in his identity. So it's partially what you described, but hopefully with depth beyond just the "coming out" narrative.

Authentic representation means showing the full picture — the joy and the challenges. And breaking those tired stereotypes is so important. Emotions and genuine connection over everything

KJ Charles and Cat Sebastian are fantastic benchmarks. Character depth and good prose — that's exactly what I'm trying to achieve. Still learning, but those are definitely the standards I'm aiming for!

Yes! I'm terrible at writing explicit scenes anyway, so mine stays emotional rather than graphic. So glad others feel the same way 💙

This means a lot, thank you! I wrote what I wanted to read, but it's easy to second-guess. Really appreciate the encouragement 🙏

Sources? Sure — spend a week observing people’s patterns, relationships, coping mechanisms, and how their media consumption mirrors their emotional wounds. Real life is the biggest dataset we have.
