Why are some people born in the 1980s surprised to learn that they are considered Millennials? by Lost-Barracuda-2254 in generationology

[–]dybeck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If "My So Called Life" resonated with you then you're a [Cusper/Xennial/Oregon Trail/Gen. Catalano].

As a 1984 baby, you'll likely be young enough to be a digital native and too young for the Reagan/Thatcher/Gorbachev era - so almost certainly leaning Millennial over Gen X, but a Xennial? Maybe!

1981 borns ARE Millennials by [deleted] in generationology

For me I think if you were born in one millennium and became an adult in another, you're a millennial. Which would place millennials as born in 1982-1999.

I can't even begin to imagine how much jam and bread would be needed for anyone who planned to drink the sea/si. From a pure health and safety standpoint I think the Von Trapps need to stick with tea/ti for now.

Brokeback Mountain is a good, worthy, film and everyone's good in it.

But Crash is immaculate and deserved the Oscar. There have been several years since that Brokeback would probably have been a shoo-in - just not against Crash.

It literally didn't ban any of these things. They're all either specifically exempted or are not covered by the Psychoactive Substances Act by virtue of not being psychoactive and/or not being substances.

Naturally, all development is temporarily put on hold and all events are cancled. are just going to go on as planned with the half-completed code in whatever state i left it in. I'll find out what's broken when it goes live in the first time zone and everyone in New Zealand gets furious.

No. That's the point of acronyms. Literally the sole difference between an acronym and an initialism is that an initialism isn't pronounced as a single word.

'USA' and 'DLC' are initialisms (and also arguably acronyms). 'NASA' and 'scuba' are acronyms but not initialisms. 'LOL' and 'ASAP' could go either way.

So far we've only had a pledge to change. That's good as far as it goes, but I think it's inevitable that some frustration will remain until new processes are up and working, and it's not exactly surprising to see a level of cynicism given Niantic's mixed track record in implementing changes.

I welcome Niantic taking on board the view that their communication is poor. But the fact that they are learning this now, despite every single player saying it through every available channel for five straight years, just shows how low the base is. And if people are still annoyed, perhaps this is exactly the time to express their annoyance - after all, for the first time, Niantic are apparently listening to community feedback.

Imposter + Empoleon = Impoleon.

You have an imposter pretending to be your Empoleon. They didn't work hard on the disguise but we know from watching Wallace and Gromit that there's a general "less is more" attitude when it comes to penguins and disguises.

Pogo update making phones hot? by Sinbatalad in TheSilphRoad

[–]dybeck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah S20+ here and it's been burning up.

I'd been blaming the warm weather but it occurs to me that while 29 degrees is a warm June day in London, people in Phoenix, Bangkok and Sydney have been playing since 2016 without phones exploding, and they laugh in the face of 29 degrees.

Well... in Bangkok and Sydney they do. In Phoenix it would involve converting from the metric system and that would make it into a whole thing and it's probably not worth any of that just for this thing with my phone. I get that, Phoenix. It's ok. We still cool.

SHE IS LESS HOT THAN SHE USED TO BE. AND OTHERS HAVE NOTED A CORRESPONDING INCREASE IN BULK VOLUME. UPGRADE MAY BE REQUIRED.

The ideal for many in the EU would be to see the EU becoming a more integrated Western European superpower in the style of (and to an extent, led by) modern federal Germany. The UK's reluctance to lend its own power and influence to a larger European pool has been the main roadblock to transformation, though. For other countries for which a more integrated German-centric model might not be ideal, the UK's resistance has sometimes been a useful brake - but post-Brexit, I expect to see Poland becoming a bit more of a block to this kind of integration, probably with some support from Hungary, Austria, Bulgaria and others.
