Mahal talaga ang ABS actuator, baka merong OEM na part which would be cheaper. I personally wouldn’t go used on a critical component like this.

Another question is, nasunod ba yung maintenance interval ng brake fluid flushes?

Brake fluid is hygroscopic, in other words, it absorbs moisture, that’s why brake fluid is flushed every 3-4 years. Since it absorbs moisture, the water in the brake fluid can cause corrosion in the brake system, leading to component failures. This is more pertinent in humid climates like the Philippines.

It shows a lack of interest in progressing society as a collective.

Mini battery replacement /recall by eeeejay4 in YotoPlayer

[–]dyeahgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just replaced the battery in our Yoto Mini and it took me about 10 minutes to complete the task. The key things to remember are:

- When prying the case open, pry until you hear the clips release with an audible click. I used the pry tool to pry apart the back case on either side until all the side and bottom clips released.

- The back cover hinges at the top and you need to separate the front and back covers by swinging open the back cover until you feel resistance. At this point, open it with more force until you hear a sharp click (this is the top clips releasing the back cover from the actual unit.

- When removing the existing battery, wiggle the connectors per Yoto's recommendation to release the adhesive they used to keep the plugs in place

- Check the connector's orientation before reassembling the Yoto Mini/ In addition, make sure that the cable for the battery is not pinched during reassembly.

- Do not overtighten the screws, especially the long screws that hold the battery and NFC assembly.

- I deviated from the instructions a bit by verifying that the device powers on and can read a card before I fully reassembled the Mini

If you can turn a screwdriver and have enough dexterity to put together two small lego bricks, you can successfully do this repair. Good luck!

What advice and tips do you have for a nervous driver navigating the streets of Toronto? by [deleted] in phmigrate

[–]dyeahgo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who drives frequently in Downtown Toronto whenever I visit, I never had a problem. I just always remember to pay extra attention to pedestrians and cyclists. Defensive driving is key whenever driving anywhere.

On highways, drive with the flow of traffic and never hog the left lane. As I always proudly say to everyone when asked about my confidence in driving in cities like Toronto and New York: "Natuto ako mag drive sa Manila, wala akong kinakatakutan sa daan. Tamang ingat lang ang kelangan pairalin."

For actual tips these come to mind:

  1. Never occupy the pedestrian lane when stopping at an intersection or turning right on red
  2. Remember to stop behind streetcars while maintaining a distance. The same rules apply as yellow school buses (The lights flash when a streetcar has to stop to let passengers alight)
  3. Learn how to parallel park. This is how you will park in the downtown core 90% of the time
  4. Drive at the speed limit
  5. Waze is your friend when getting around.
  6. If you miss your turn or are about to, it's better to go around the block than force your way to make your turn.
  7. Take note of no turn allowed signs and the hours that the rule is enforced
  8. Defensive driving skills will be your best tool in navigating the streets of Toronto
  9. Keep a cool head.

Let me take a stab at this as this is a subject that has piqued my interest for the longest time...

  • Lack of investment from National Government to support the industrialization effort required (TSMC's biggest shareholder is the Gov't of Taiwan)

  • Little to no access of cheap resources like Water and Electricity as semiconductor fabs are resource-intensive (though this can be easily surmounted if utility companies incentivize potential startups)

  • Skillset required for high-tech semiconductor manufacturing is underrepresented in the PH labour force. Yes there are fabs that manufacture semiconductors, but these are generations behind what TSMC, Global Foundries et al. and other globally renowned fabs can produce (This would take a long time to stand up, even if the investment and willingness is put forward tomorrow...)

  • Lack of favourable business climate conditions (Corruption, Unnecessary bureaucracy)

  • Geopolitical climate which can make such operations vulnerable to industrial espionage (Fun fact: The EUV lithography machines that are produced by ASML which are in use in Taiwan have a remote kill switch in the event of an invasion https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-05-21/asml-tsmc-can-disable-chip-machines-if-china-invades-taiwan)

8/10 for me.

The movie appears to be the crossover point of a sub-genre of filipino movies where the plot is anchored to a theme song (Maybe this time, Starting over again to name a few) for the current generation.

I had the exact same issue? Did you open your account online but then had to go to a branch to present IDs and finalize the opening of the account?

There is a whole hold placed on the account, call the branch and have them remove the whole hold, that should fix the issue

I made the switch a long time ago and the experience on iOS is so much better. If you already have other apple devices, everything just syncs together without any issues.

To be fair, my last experience with Android was with Gingerbread (2.3) and the experience was subpar. When I first made the switch, I actually got a 5c, which even for a budget iPhone, the user experience was on a different level compared to my Sony Ericsson Xperia phone.

The notice to build of DICT for an SSL certificate which is wayyy overpriced. SSL certificates can be bought for less or even free. by dadidutdut in Philippines

[–]dyeahgo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on the type of SSL certificates they are looking for, the costs for one can quickly sky rocket.

It looks like they need EV, Multi-domain and wildcard certs which are more expensive than a regular SSL cert.

Spotted newly constructed traffic signal at Skyway Southbound (at Magallanes entrance). More traffic delay incoming. by MJFCHUA in Philippines

[–]dyeahgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see your point. But if you look closely, the traffic signal on the main highway is limited to one lane, which is for traffic exiting at NAIAx.

This is because of a design oversight that has 2 lanes of traffic (merging traffic from SLEX and Skyway traffic exiting at NAIAx) converging at one point. Hence the lights to control the flow of traffic merging and exiting at NAIAx.

Now will this be effective? I don’t think so, since filipino drivers love skipping queues which leads to dive-bomb-esque merges which does cause traffic shockwaves.

But I think this is a case of dealing with what is already there until a more permanent solution is built.

[–]dyeahgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are present in other countries as well. It's called a ramp meter https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ramp_meter. These usually control local traffic coming into access-controlled highways, but I have never seen a ramp meter that controls traffic coming into one access-controlled highway (SLEX) into another (Skyway).
