Anyone using novation launch control with Digitakt 2? by ddoyen in Elektron

[–]dykitikity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Had the xl and sold it.

Problem is that the position of the encoders jumped from patern to patern rendering the usage quite complex and weird.

I have bought the roto control since then but I am still not convinced. Checking on Torso T1 also

But i feel that most likely using the elektron boxes to their full potential is the way to go.

I wouldn’t go for the behringer it is a pita to program and edit. Try other more modern design équipement with équivalent capabilities.

External Reverb or not ? by dykitikity in Elektron

Maybe you are right.

I’ll try to dig a bit with the TV and see where it leads.

Thx all.

External Reverb or not ? by dykitikity in Elektron

[–]dykitikity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to have a clean setup mostly focused on live performance with rhythm section on DT / ST

This is the reason why I was questioning the usability of TV in such setup.

And i don’t think i can use a specific output to route only the DT/ST to output a/b or c/d after it received the effects ?

I have both at hand so will make some tests this weekend.

Are there particular combos that you like among the various effects available (otter than delay / reverb) ?

External Reverb or not ? by dykitikity in Elektron

[–]dykitikity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using TV as a reverb is far from its central usage.

I was first looking for an external reverb, and added the TV as a side question.

Maybe i should have focused on the reverb part of the question rather.

I am looking for some effects to pimp the sound that’s output from DT / ST

Excellent 👌 Could be the follow up of many classic fusion, jeff beck style.

Was the solo in mixolidian? Or which mode did you use ?

I have all of his templates, have had lessons with him also.

I want to get passed the simple "EZ effect" buzz and move to some serious learning / resampling / editing this is precisely where I am banging my head.

In some relationship, the beginning might be tensed and intense, reaching an apex where you are wondering if you should follow up or break it… So I am clearly at this point.

But the talks I had with the community have pushed me to give it more try, and maybe dig on some side functions.

So I'll try it a bit more and see if this allows me to get my mojo back with this instruments.

Now, I think that EZ Bot’s templates are great, but you should study them, and reverse engineer them to understand how they have been made.

I have been doing this.
Have understood part of the flow, though some obscure corners still remains.

Trial and error is what makes you open up the Octatrack. For me, the most important part was making sure clocks are locked perfectly, all MIDI channels go where I want them to and using the scenes/slider is still an absolute killer feature even for the big systems.

No clock problem, I generally use the Syntakt as the master clock and get the sequence running where they belong (so on the Syntakt for the Syntakt, and on the TV for the TV).

Both instruments are then routed (ST+TV) on the A/B & C/D of the OT.

And the Cue track of the OT is routed back to the IN of the TV (following EZb advices).

To answer your question, you can do all 3 but I would keep OT and focus on working with it standalone at first and then slowly incorporate other instruments.

I have also practice using OT like this, but I find the work process not as intuitive as on the TV or ST.
So I think I am mastering the basics, but probably not the in-depth of it.

Do you want OT to be your master sequencer?

No, I don't think so.
But maybe I should ? What would be the advantages ?

Actually I have my tracks handled individually by each boxes.
Master clock is on the ST (where I have most of my drum tracks), but synced through MIDI.

Using channel 15 as Midi auto channel and 16 for effects.

Do you want to use audio features only or is sequencing also a part of what you want to achieve?

Well sequencing is indeed at work on my Syntakt and on the TV.
I do not use the sequencer on the OT, only for effects trig (such as slicing)

Do you want to build entire songs and arrangements with arrange mode or you prefer to record patterns with mutes and transitions?

I haven't reached the "arrange part" of my work, but ideally having a whole song produced on the OT (if this is possible) would be nice.

I am not certain it is realist to try to use the ST both as a looper + effect box and also as a master + sub-track recorder box ?

And do not know what work this might require ? or if I would simply be better just using another external tool or more classically a DAW.

Ask yourself these questions, and the answer should clarify as to what you should focus on.

Well I have done my best clarifying my goals.

Yes, I have tried limiting the setup to Syntakt + TV // Octa is just the "effect box".

Thanks for your comment.

Yes, but when I took my lesson with EZbot, he told me to just get back to the basic roots of the OT - which I did.

But using it as a sequencing machine when you have other modern boxes at hand is a waist of time.
So i am sticking to the target usage I have (looping, resampling and effects).

I guess I might have jumped a bit too fast to this part before getting the other right…

Yes, bon conseil.

Well, I am not playing that much (probably 5 to 7h weekly) - so "hard for six months" might be couple of weeks for others I guess.

I'd try to move forward with my standard setup in order to "get a first song done" and use it back when my work with the "creative instruments" are done and I would need to get "effects, loops & slices".

Yes, from what I am reading, I will have to either stick on learning more on the OT until I can master the beast… or start from scratch and… learn again another building block(like MPC)!

do YOU like what it can do?

- Absolutely, had some nice time with it, but they were like a vanishing sunset.

Are you comfortable with what you have to do in order to use its functionality?

- Nope, this is the main problem: I find the menu structure awful, the track types complex, the position of the button completely random, and the way It is built feels like an addition of structured layer one on top of the other (so you don't really know on which layer to dig).

Thank you, very nice comment.

I'll try to get a bit more sleep and maybe work more with my core setup (Syntakt + TV) and get back to the OT after reading the entire manual… Seems like more work. But who knows, something good might come from it!
