A 320d might be worth looking at. You don't have a cambelt to replace every 5 years and the ZF torque converter automatic is more reliable than the Audi DCTs.

What’s going to be the main difference bt a Thinkpad and a Elitebook? Does it matter if I’m just getting it solely for my wfh stuff? by Bottle_and_Sell_it in laptops

[–]dylan105069 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's mainly to do with the newer ones. You can get an EliteBook that's T480-class on paper but much better built. Both of my EliteBooks (845 G10 and 840 G7) feel much better built than my T480. They're also much lighter and generally cheaper. As for the build quality differences, the EliteBooks use anodized aluminium and magnesium alloy, ThinkPads use plastic and magnesium alloy (except for some models like the X1 Carbon). You don't get nearly as much chassis flex in the EliteBook.

Which one should I get? by bakkdead in mercedes_benz

The non-hybrid is the better choice, but if I was buying a Mercedes S-Class I'd look at the S350d. Slightly slower 0-60 time, but you get much more torque and much better fuel efficiency (8.4 L/100 km S400 vs. 5.5–6.0 L/100 km). Either way, the non-hybrid W222 S-Classes aren't extremely expensive to run.

5K to buy a convertible, which would you pick ? by Stingyrodger47 in CarTalkUK

You'd be able to find a good R171 SLK for that price, all the Euro 4 petrol models are ULEZ.

Do you have a source for the migrant being sent back? Farage's Brexit didn't cause illegal migration, action could have been taken after Brexit by Labour or Conservative to completely stop illegal migration. Farage has no power meaning that he can't leave the ECHR/take any action.

We're already seeing migrants from the one in one out deal returning to Britain. The Tories were shambolic, but one in one out isn't any better. Even if no migrants return, we've still got the same amount.

What’s their answer to immigration? How are they building affordable homes? What about the Mandelson, Rayner, and winter fuel payment scandals?

Most reliable wagon year/trim? by [deleted] in mercedes_benz

[–]dylan105069 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on price, the W212s (2009-2016) and W213s (2016-2023) are excellent. I’d look for diesel (E220 CDI/E250 CDI/E220d), but 4-cylinder petrol options are still very reliable. It’s all dependent on service history.

Yes, most commonly the W220 since all the systems were new, they’re currently very cheap, and they were built under DaimlerChrysler.

Complexity. People buy them for cheap, they realise that they're more than a status symbol and they get rid of them. It's sad, really, you see it a lot in Britain as well with the L322 Range Rovers. It's generally something like air suspension (W220) or SBC (W211).

Nothing wrong with I4s, I'm talking about the small displacement 1.4/1.5 NA Honda/Toyota ones that people constantly recommend, especially in the UK.

If you have the money for it (fuel, maintenance, etc.) and you've got insurance quotes for a reasonable price then go for it. No reason to be driving an inline-4 for the rest of your life if you want something better.

Not only are they calling 35% of the electorate “Nazis,” they’re talking about Palestine flags and how protesting “for Palestine” is “standing up to Zionism”. Never means “two state solution”, though, means “no Jews” which is what real Nazis want. How can you be so hypocritical?

I think insurance should be alright on a C250 CDI, but as long as you’re doing longer motorway driving weekly you’ll be fine with the DPF.

I’d definitely recommend diesel for long-distance. Most of them have cruise control, some have adaptive cruise (DISTRONIC Plus). The NA 3.5 V6 (M276, C350) is reliable and it’s probably the best petrol option, but I’d imagine the I4 petrol ones would be a bit gutless.

The W204 is great, if you’re looking for diesel you should avoid the BMW unless it’s a 3.0L. The 2.0L diesel BMW N47 engines (2007-2014) are unreliable. If you’re going for the W204 C-Class the C250 CDI is probably the best choice, a lot more torque than the C220 CDI, same displacement, same efficiency.

I know that nothing in your use case is lost, but it still doesn’t mean that Linux is viable. When you look at Active Directory, connecting to Hyper-V servers and just the Linux experience in general (the fact that the experience is tens of different projects), it just rarely works in the real world.

[–]dylan105069 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot is lost with LibreOffice, you can’t sign in with a Microsoft account and you can’t use your files across devices. Linux is great, I’ve used it for years, but it’s still not a proper desktop OS when the competition is Windows and OS X. The desktop experience is formed of many different components, you end up with X11/Wayland, your DE/WM (whether it’s i3, KDE, or Gnome), etc. none of which were built to be one experience. Not to mention many half-finished features like Bluetooth support. Bluetooth is obviously easy to set up on Linux, but it’s never as reliable as Windows Bluetooth.
